Getting back to socializing! I've had the coffee meetups on hiatus, but we're back! Join me this month at 🥁
Oddly Correct Coffee Bar!

We will tour around KC for great coffee brunch locations. Take or leave the coffee, of-course, because there are also juice, smoothie, and tea options available at most places.

The cap is currently set at 12, but some locations will require an even smaller group, so this event will always be just a little more friendly. Check the weather and bring your small-talk note cards, jic! 😆

Oddly Correct Coffee Bar is not fully vegan, but I checked out their vegan cinnamon roll and "Power Puck" (which is oats, dried cherries, coconut flakes, peanut butter, flax and chia seeds), which were both very good. I have also tried their vegan sausage and pimento biscuit, which I enjoyed. Our last event here they had run out of the vegan biscuits but made the same sausage pimento sandwich with vegan pancakes instead, which is not on the menu. They have both Oat and Macadamia Nut milk, which is very good, and unusual, plus one other plant-based milk option. If you have an allergy, please let them know. Their other vegan option is granola. They also have a great tea selection and herbal shots if you don't wish to have coffee.

The atmosphere is pretty hipster, not much indoor seating space but they also have picnic tables outdoors. They use small glass jars with cosies for their to-go drinks, which you can take with you and return the next time for a discount on your next visit. No waste!

Overall, I loved this location and have wanted to keep going back ever since I discovered it. So please join me this Friday, or if you can visit them later, please do; and tell them Jami from VegKC sent you! 💚

VegKC The Corner Mexican Restaurant Meetup!

🍴ABOUT THE VENUE
They offer a wide variety of unusual vegan Mexican dishes — not just substitutions, but traditional regional recipes adapted with house‑made vegan ingredients.

The restaurant describes itself as:
“More than just a restaurant, we are a tradition… dedicated to sharing Mexico’s rich culinary heritage using recipes perfected over generations.”

This isn’t Americanized Tex‑Mex — expect authentic Mexican street‑food classics such as huaraches, tlacoyos, pambazos, cactus, squash blossoms, and handmade tortillas.

They’ve gone all‑in on vegan offerings, crafting their own house‑made vegan cheeses and a wide range of authentic Mexican street‑food–style vegan fillings.

Their vegan protein options — listed on the menu as ‘your vegan option’ — include squash blossoms, mushroom ‘rinds,’ soy chorizo, soy asada, soy pastor, soy birria, soy ground, and more.

🍲 MENU EXAMPLES

• Huarache Oval shaped handmade tortilla, black beans, your vegan option, lettuce, almond sour cream, vegan cheese, prickly pear cactus and avocado.
• Plato loco Soy asada, soy chorizo, cactus, tofu, rice, black beans, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, chili, refried onions and 3 handmade tortillas on the side.
• Enchiladas Green or Red Three enchiladas sautéed in green or red sauce, with vegan cheese, almond sour cream, onions, cilantro, black beans and rice.
• Pambazo Telera bread, mashed potato-soy chorizo, lettuce, almond sour cream, vegan cheese, & guajillo sauce.
• Tlacoyo vegan chick-un covered in delicious creamy mole sauce with rice and 3 handmade tortillas.

Our monthly restaurant events are relaxed, casual gatherings focused around sharing a delicious meal and conversation.

• We enjoy a late lunch and typically visit for a couple of hours.

🍲 Vegan Ordering Tips

• Vietnamese: Check for fish sauce or egg in dishes. Ask if Pho can be made with a vegan broth. Vermicelli noodles are often a safe option. For Bún, substitute peanut sauce in place of fish sauce.
• Mexican: ask about lard in the beans/tortillas, chicken stock in the rice, or rarely dairy in guacamole
• Chinese: sauces often use animal broth (i.e. brown sauce), egg noodles, but otherwise usually plenty of veggies and tofu
• Indian: most dishes use ghee, butter, cream, or soft cheeses, ask about vegan options without dairy. Roti and occasionally a plain Naan can be ordered without dairy.
• Ethiopian: usually very vegan friendly but ask about Ghee or butter
• Middle Eastern: Hummus, Baba Ganoush, dolmas (often made with just rice), falafel (often a shared fryer), Za'atar (roasted/fried cauliflower), and pita (sometimes contains dairy), tabouli salad, fattoush salad are all pretty safe. Ask about feta and watch for tzatziki yogurt sauce.
• Pizza: Waldo pizza has a vegan menu; many places now offer a vegan crust and cheese like Violife or Follow Your Heart and more interesting veg toppings.
