See all- Virtual Documentary Night: Forks Over KnivesLink visible for attendees
**YOU MUST WATCH THE FILM ON YOUR OWN BEFORE THE EVENT**
Link to the film is in the info below.
For this Virtual Documentary Night, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have voted to talk about the documentary, Forks Over Knives. This film examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the "diseases of affluence" that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by changing what we put on our fork rather than going under the knife. Here is a link to where you can watch it for free.

This is a Voting Night, which means at the end of the night we brainstorm and vote to decide as a group what we will watch the following month, so please come ready with your recommendation. The only requirement is that the film must be available to watch online for free. If you need any ideas, you can search through the Flyers Page on the Community Documentary Night website. It is full of flyers based around certain themes and each flyer is full of documentary posters, which are hyperlinked to where you watch the films for free. Something to consider is that next month is November, which is Native American Heritage Month and there is also Veterans Day on November 11th. Check out the Native American Heritage Month and the Veterans Day flyer if you're interested in recommending a film in honor of this holiday.
Again, you must watch the film on your BEFORE the event. We will be meeting over Zoom, where we will break out into small discussion groups. We will do multiple rounds of small group discussion, then close out the night with larger group discussion. The Zoom information is listed below.
Meeting ID: 875 5525 6659
Passcode: 861888
This event is posted in multiple meetup groups, and on Eventbrite, as well as with members of the Community Documentary Night email list. (Message me if interested in joining the email list) Therefore, THIS RSVP LIST IS NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE ATTENDING THE EVENT. So even if you only see one person RSVPed in this meetup group, there will always be others in attendance from other groups. We tend to have at least 20 on average. By inviting numerous groups that increases the likelihood that those in attendance will be from varying backgrounds and beliefs. This is done purposefully to provide everyone with the opportunity to hear a wide range of perspectives.
This event is open to all who are open to all. The one thing we ask is that people allow others to get their full thought out and that any disagreement is voiced in a civil way. Check out the Community Documentary Night website for more info or links to previously shown documentaries.
Thank you and hope to see you there!
- Baltimore Running Festival: Run, walk, cheer, or party!Baltimore, Baltimore, MD
Update: Here's the link to sign up for Team Vegan & the pw is VegansRock!
I named the team "Team Vegan" to encourage all vegans from any group to join forces with us as one large team! At other races we typically have multiple vegan teams, this is a way for us to come together and represent together as vegans! Veg-curious, vegetarians, plant-based and friends of vegans are welcome too!
Lets wear our vegan shirts and show the world that veganism is a cool thing and that they are many of us out there! Signs would be great too. I consider this a form of vegan activism.
The Baltimore Running Festival (BRF) is such a fun event! There are many options for runners and non-runners:
1. Explore/hike/run/walk the city through signing up for a 5K (or longer!) Cost: $45+ Running: Optional!
2. Join in on the fun and cheer and/or just hang out with us! Cost: $0 Running: none or as much as you want!
The BRF crowd is really supportive, high energy and positive. This is Baltimore on it's absolute best day and a great way to visit the city. For longer distances, you will see many areas of Baltimore and it's residents coming out on their stoops to cheer you on! It's not often that we get to be in a situation where we have 1000's of people cheering us on! The police officers were cheering us on too! I've done several distances over the years and I have really positive memories. I recommend it everyone: runners, walkers, or even spectators! Every year people tell me how motivating it was and how much they enjoyed it. This has even come from people who say they use to hate running! The feeling of accomplishment, support, camaraderie and excitement makes it all worthwhile. You will witness many crazy costumes, amazing accomplishments and an emotionally charged experience at the finish line. I love seeing the athletes in wheel chairs and other athletes with various challenges cross the finish line. It's inspirational and amazing to witness.
The date is Saturday October 14th and the options include: 5K, 10K, 1/2 and full marathon (start times vary for these distances), and virtual. Sign up for Team Vegan's social team (social team times are not compared to other teams so there are no team awards) and you can choose any event option including virtual.
If 10 or more people register for our team (for any variety of distances but not including virtual), each person gets $10 off the entry fee! For example, if 5 ppl sign up for the 5k and 5 ppl sign up for the 10k, everyone will get a $10 rebate (when the 10th person signs up, that person gets the $10 discount right away and the prior 9 people will get a $10 rebate.).
We will also have lunch at an Baltimore restaurant with vegan options.
I will posting updates on the Meetup comments for this event and the Facebook page. If you are seeing this event cross-posted somewhere else, please RSVP on the main Vegan-Powered Meetup site so we can see the total number of people and comments in one place.
I look forward to see you out there!
Stephanie
