Session 1: Lessons from experiencing a ransomware attack
Earlier this year, Virsoft Solutions was hit by a ransomware attack. Within a few minutes, all servers in the datacenter stopped working, due to the encrypted files.
Virsoft provides online lab virtual machines for thousands of students worldwide, as part of official Microsoft courses.
In this session, Ronald Beekelaar, founder of Virsoft, and a 22 year Microsoft MVP, will tell the story of this experience.
This includes the contact with the police, the communication with customers, understanding what happened, and the efforts to recover. Ronald will also explain the emotional aspect of dealing with a ransomware attack. Additionally, the session discusses the lessons learned by this experience - from a technical point of view, and from a preparedness
Session 2: Passkeys | The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Passkeys are the best thing since sliced bread, but implementing and adopting them can be pretty challenging.
During this session, I will share my personal experience with passkey implementation and cover all the pitfalls and caveats that you can take back to your organization for a successful rollout of phishing-resistant MFA.
We'll take a brief look at the current state of passkeys in the Microsoft ecosystem and see what works and what needs improvement. And of course, we have a good cringe about the "ugly" part of passkeys.
Session 3: The Challenge of Providing Secure Access to External Admins
Microsoft Partners and freelance consultants often work with multiple customers, needing access to different Microsoft 365 environments. This session will focus on how to balance security policies for external administrators to protect administrative permissions effectively. We'll discuss whether to create a guest or regular user account for external admins, or to provide access through GDAP, and look at the pros and cons of each option.
To make a decision, we'll address some important questions such as:
• How should we balance Conditional Access policies for external admins?
• Can we ensure that they work from a device that is compliant with my policies?
• Can we use least privilege principles and how can we utilize Privileged Identity Management (PIM) to achieve this?
• Does the user experience enable external admins to work efficiently, or is it blocking them?
Whether you're a Microsoft partner managing multiple customer tenants or a customer looking to provide secure access for your Microsoft Partner or freelance consultants, this session is for you. By the end of this session, you'll know how to tackle the challenge of providing secure access to your external admins.
