Elevation Range:1700-2100 feet
Difficulty: Moderate
Scrambling: Some minor use of hands for balance in a few spots with boulders, nothing hard. You need to take off your backpack to squeeze through a crack. Poles can help but aren’t needed.
How easy to follow? Next to impossible to follow a network of random footprints and blind turns. Need to use GPS
Dogs: yes but you’re carrying them over minor obstacles

Trailhead$ (36.44087316458329, -114.51659324132903) is the official trailhead of Mouse’s tank in Valley of Fire state park. There is an entrance fee to enter the park.

Don’t let the short distance fool you, it's a good workout and fun adventure, but not overly long. This walk is completely in sand and sandstone with many turns. You will be rewarded with constant views of sandstone hills and arches. There are several odd formations including a rock like a mummy’s head, a star destroyer, and an emoji rock. We’ll also be able to view the many petroglyph panels near Mouse’s tank.The time of the meetup is the time we are LEAVING the carpool location (if no carpool then it is the time we are starting hike), please come on time, or chase after us frantically if you are late. Please review the planned hike if possible, be prepared for a no host event should your organizer need to drop off at the last minute. Pictures are often taken during meetups and posted on the site, if you don't want to be photographed then wear a bag over your head. If the meetup only has one person coming it may be canceled if I can’t be sure you will show up (I’ll try to contact you). Hiking time estimates are for an average size group, smaller groups go faster and larger groups slower.

Escape the concrete and join us for a perfect afternoon on the ridge! If you are looking for a welcoming crew, panoramic desert views, and a solid outdoor workout without intense rock scrambling, this is your hike.
We are a "no hiker left behind" community. Whether you are coming alone to meet new friends or bringing a buddy, you will find a great pace and friendly conversation to kick off your weekend afternoon.

- The Reward: An incredible sweeping view from top of Ike's Peak looking north to Summerlin and Lone Mountain, east to the Las Vegas Strip or back toward the southwest valley and Rhodes Ranch.
- The Trail: A fun, varied 4.7-mile intermediate route with 650 feet of elevation gain. We use an old mining road before hitting a scenic mountain ridge trail.
- The Smart Window: We roll out at 2:00 PM—strategically timed to hike as the sun's intense midday UV levels drop (targeting a UV index of 4 or lower) for a much more comfortable, sun-safe trek.

## ⏱️ Quick Details
- Start Time: 2:00 PM (5+ minutes late? -- spot us walking up gravel road hill).
- Difficulty: Intermediate - relatively easy for seasoned hikers, a fun challenge for beginners—no scrambling required.
- Distance/Time: ~4.7 miles (about 2.5 to 3 hours via ridgeline trail & return via Good Call Loop).
- Pace: Social and steady. We share the trail with advanced mountain bikers, so we stay aware and hike together.
- 🐾 Dogs: Well-behaved, leashed trail pups are welcome!

## 🎒 What to Bring & Safety Rules
- Footwear: HIKING SHOES REQUIRED. No tennis shoes or sneakers allowed. The ridge trail, often over lava rock terrain, requires solid traction for your safety.
- Hydration/Snacks: Recommend 1.5–2 liters of water and light trail snack.
- Vibe Check: Friendly chat is highly encouraged! To keep our community inclusive and relaxed, we have a strict no national politics or religion policy.

## 🚗 Location, Parking & Directions
- GPS Pin: 📍 Google Maps Parking Link (Coordinates: 36.0534, -118.444)
- Reference Address: 10000 Cougar Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89178 (For GPS framing only—street parking available on the first two blocks of Cougar Ave).
- Meeting Spot: We park along Cougar Avenue and Todd Allen Creek Street. Do not park near the flood control basin dam.
Driving Directions:
- Head South on Fort Apache Rd past Warm Springs and Rhodes Ranch.
- Turn right (West) onto Ford Avenue (by Forbuss Elementary).
- At end of Ford, turn right (North) on Reynolds Spring Rd, then a quick left onto Cougar Avenue.
(Coming from Henderson? Take Blue Diamond Rd/H-160 West, exit north on Ft. Apache, and turn left on Ford Ave).

Lake Mead Spooky Canyon Loop

Total time to complete: 3 hours hiking and 1 hour drive time.
Elevation Change: 1000 feet
Elevation Range: 1300 - 2000 feet
Difficulty: Moderate
Scrambling: Hiking poles are helpful when we transfer washes. Also there are a few spots requiring light use of hands to pull yourself over a rock, the group can assist you if needed.
How easy to follow? There are multiple unmarked random turns in and out of canyons, stay with the group or be lost in a maze.
Dogs: yes, you are also welcome to do only the first canyon as the transfer between canyons and return trail is rocky, you can turn around and return easily here.
Bathrooms: Trailer toilet
Trailhead (35.98021, -114.69772) is a paved parking lot at mile marker 4 on the north side of US 93 in Arizona just past the Hoover Dam bridge. This is also the trailhead for Arizona Hotsprings, White Rock Canyon, Liberty Bell Arch, old US93, and Horsethief Canyon. Please leave a comment if you are meeting us at the trailhead. -

Please bring your sense of adventure on this hike! A good quarter of this hike is spent in shaded narrow canyons and most of the hike is flat walking in washes. The first canyon is the long canyon that feels like an endless maze and there is one exit other than the way in. Those who know the exit to this canyon is marked by a large heart shaped rock. There is an optional 5 minute spur to go deeper here as the walls will be narrow enough to touch with both hands but you must return to the heart to leave.
The heart exit wash will lead us back out into the open terrain, this is the section you will need your hikes poles as there is no trail and we are going up and down inclined hillsides. Next up is the original spooky canyon has only 1 way in and out at the US 93 crossing where we will start it. We will do this short canyon as an out and back then continue on our loop. A secret passage will lead us under the freeway and back onto the Liberty Bell arch trail to return to our cars.
