Sorry everyone this isn't the full blown version of the North Downs Way that goes from Farnham to Dover which covers a mere 156 miles including a quick detour to Canterbury!!
I know you are all disappointed, but instead, why don't you join me in following in the footsteps of the Pilgrims on their inspirational 10-12 mile journey from Guildford to Farnham through a landscape rich in scenery and heritage that encompasses the North Downs Way.
From Guildford we will follow the Wey South Path leaving this at St Catherine’s Hill at the ‘golden ford’. We will then follow the NDW through part of Loseley Park Estate (http://www.loseleypark.co.uk/house) towards the Watts Gallery. From the Watts Gallery we will head towards Puttenham. From there, we will meander through woodland and open fields, giving views of the Hogs Back. Finally, we will pick the River Wey before heading once again into Farnham.
En-route we have two opportunities for liquid refreshments. The first is at the tea rooms at the Watts Gallery (http://www.wattsgallery.org.uk/tea-shop) and the second at The Good Intent (http://www.thegoodintentpub.co.uk/) pub in Puttenham.
Dogs are welcome as The Good Intent is 'dog friendly'
The plan is to meet at the entrance to the large car park (£2.00 parking all day) next to Farnham Railway Station at 10.30am.
It is imperative that you arrive on time as we will need to catch the 10.47 train/bus (as it looks like this is one of only a few trains/buses that has only one change and qualifies for the ‘Group Saver’ rate that morning) back to Guildford to start walk.
Hopefully we will be a large enough group to qualify for the ‘Group Saver’ rate (numbers are divisible by four (4) to qualify for 50% reduction on fares)
You will need:
- Food, including drink for the walk and a picnic.
- Suitable walking boots and clothing for the weather.
- WiSy Fee - £3.00 per person.
The meeting/start point (Grid Ref SU 843465 (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=484387&y=146524&z=115&sv=484387,146524&st=4&ar=y&mapp=map.srf&searchp=ids.srf&dn=698&ax=484387&ay=146524&lm=0)) will be entrance to the large car park next to the railway station. The car park is just off Station Hill at the railway station
The nearest postcode is GU9 8AD
This walk is accessible by car or train. There is £2.00 parking fee (all day) for the use of the car park.

Walking Safety: Walking is a great way to keep fit and generally very safe; however it does contain an element of risk. Before going on any of these walks you need to be reasonably fit and be prepared to be responsible for your own safety. You must wear appropriate clothing such as proper walking boots, warm and wet weather clothing and carry sufficient food and water. A small torch may also be useful.
