Details

Join Mark R. Davis for this talk on the reprint of Conditioned Reflex Therapy, the book that blazed the trail that became Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Conditioned Reflex Therapy is a book that was ahead of its time, and is still formidably modern and deeply provocative. Having been out of print for over 10 years, this new edition has received glowing testimonials from leading figures in psychotherapy like Steven Hayes, who developed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Professor David Barlow, and Elizabeth Shapiro, who developed EMDR. All consider the book a highly effective, modern and relevant classic that "should be read by all therapists and most of their clients".

From detailing a conditioning model of hypnosis to explaining addiction and masochism and neuroplasticity, Andrew Salter cuts a clear swath through the issues to unfold the what it is the drives a human being - and how nature designed us to work. At heart the book is all about inhibition vs self-expression, emotion and authenticity - as one client said "those few pages you gave me to read liberated me... to be myself".

Mark has introduced this classic to most of the 2000+ clients he has seen as a therapist, and the hundreds of students he has trained both in the UK and in China. It is often the high point of the therapy or the psychotherapy training, leading to profound insight and change.

After the talk, Mark will host a short Q&A and signing session. We hope to see you there!
