Bikepacking Catalina Island
• What we'll do Riding across Catalina Island from Two Harbors to Avalon. Day 1: San Pedro to Two Harbors - Boating on the Catalina Express to Two Harbors. Become a Catalina Conservancy member. Ride from Two Harbors to Parson's landing is 8 mi. Day 2: Two Harbors to Avalon 22 mi - Ride back to Two Harbors and get ready for the trek. Its only 22 mi. from Two Harbors to Avalon, but it is not easy. Get ready for a long ride. We'll camp at Hermits Gulch in the city of Avalon. Day 3: Boat ride back to the mainland. • What to bring Mountain bike (preferred) or touring bike with fat tires. Warm clothes. Camping gear. Money. • Important to know You will need to purchase a ticket from Catalina Express and reserve your bicycle. We're landing in Two Harbors on Monday and returning from Avalon on Wednesday (let Catalina Express know this when you purchase ticket). When we get to the island you will need to purchase a membership to the Catalina Conservancy. Market and restaurant on Two Harbors. Why does this trip start on Monday and end on Wednesday? The hardest part is reserving a bicycle spot on the Catalina Express. On a weekday we will have a better chance of having enough spots for everyone who really wants to come. Also, some of the campsites in Catalina have 1 night camping only on weekdays. The fun is to ride across the island, not stay at the same campsite for two nights.
