Tour from San Luis Obispo to Ventura and beyond!
The San Luis Obispo to Ventura ( Tour. We will be following Adventure Cycling’s recommended route along the coast. This will be four days of riding, three nights camping, 140 miles total, and 5762 feet of climbing. The start and finish are planned around the Amtrak schedule, so you don’t have to drive much. There is overnight parking available at the Ventura train station. The Amtrak Pacific Surfliner #763 departs at 11:00 am and will arrive at the SLO train station at 2:30 pm. We will ride 12 miles ( through the Edna Valley to Pismo Beach and stay at the North Beach Campground. You can cook or eat out at this location. Friday from Pismo to Lompoc ( will be the toughest day of the tour. Most of the day we will be riding rural roads through small farm towns. It will be 49 miles with one significant climb on Harris Grade Road into Lompoc. We will stay at the county park called River Park. Showers will not be available at this park. You can stay in a hotel in Lompoc if you would like to be clean. Saturday will be 31 miles from Lompoc to Refugio Beach ( We will be riding 11 miles on the 101 freeway through the Gaviota Pass. This is almost all downhill with wide shoulders on the freeway. We will stay at the Hike or Bike Campsite right on the beach at Refugio. Showers are available at this campground. You will have to cook your dinner at this location. Sunday from Refugio to Ventura ( is 51 fairly flat miles. We do have to ride 10 miles on the 101 freeway from Refugio to Goleta. There is a southbound train available at 5:26 pm at the Ventura train station. If you would rather continue your journey south you can stay at the Ventura Beach RV Resort ( and head to Sycamore Canyon or Leo Carrillo Campgrounds on Monday.
