What we're about

Paddlers in the MD/DC/PA/VA/WVA area are blessed with wonderful kayaking opportunities with a number of great paddling groups. Is there room for one more? We think so! Wicked Fun Kayakers isn't interested in being the biggest or best paddling group in the area - we just want to have fun! Our goal is to create smaller, focused paddles that match different kayaking interests. Are you a beginner, recreational, photographer, or naturalist paddler that prefers a slower pace, quieter waters, and shorter distances? We're planning safe, organized (but not regimented) paddles just for you! Do you prefer faster/longer/more challenging paddles with people of similar skill levels? Watch for our organized peer paddles, or post a pick up paddle on our discussion board. Weekend trips? Camping? Side trips to wineries, restaurants or festivals? We're in!

All trips are organized by volunteers who are experienced kayakers but not professionals. We will be happy to show you basic skills that work for us, but we are not instructors and do not give formal lessons. New members should already know basic paddling skills, how to wet-exit, and be responsible for their own safety. You must have your own kayak, paddle, PFD, and basic safety equipment. Additional safety equipment may be required for certain paddles.

Moved to Kimmie Beach Saturday Paddle so we can SWIM!!!

Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center

With the high heat index, we are moving this paddle to Kimmie Beach at CBEC so we can swim and cool down!! Kimmie Beach at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center Adventure Paddle on the water time 10:00, but you must be there by 9:30 to check it at visitor center first. Adventurous Paddles: These paddles usually will be 8 plus miles, usually in more challenging water. These paddles will require at least a 12-foot boat with 2 sealed bulkheads. People who sign up for these trips should have some experience in small chop on the water. This is one of my favorite paddles. The location is wonderful, but it has Kimmie Beach. Kimmie Beach is one of the best beaches anywhere! It is a lovely paddle, with a stop at Kimmie Beach for lunch and swimming. Then back on the water for some more paddling, but then stop back by Kimmie Beach, if time allows, for another short break. Some people even stay at Kimmie Beach and just relax while others continue paddling. I just love Kimmie Beach! Special Arrival Instructions: CBEC opens at 9:00 AM. Once you arrive, head directly to the main parking lot/visitors center. Kimmie will be there to give directions. Head on in to the Visitor's Center to pay your $5 fee, then Kimmie will tell you how to find the put in. Make sure to arrive by 9:30 at the latest, so you have time to pay the fee and then drive to another location in time to unload your boat. This 8 mile paddle will have us paddling around the beautiful peninsula CBEC is located on and the bays on either side of the peninsula. Highlights of the tour include lots of waterfowl including herons, egrets, osprey and bald eagles. The real fun begins though when we stop at one of CBEC's gorgeous sandy beaches for lunch and a swim or a short hike. This paddle is appropriate for anyone with basic paddling experience who can maintain a gentle pace for about 3 hours of paddling and can handle some chop in the water, with a stop out of our boats for lunch and a couple of rest stops on the water thrown in. CBEC is located on the Chesapeake Bay where winds and power boat traffic can generate some choppy water to paddle in especially during a one mile portion of the paddle. Most people find that just adds to the fun. Plan to arrive no later than 9:30 AM to get situated with your kayak and gear so that we can be on the water promptly at 10:00 am. Expect to be off the water and back to your car sometime between 3:00 and 3:30 PM. We will stop at a local food joint for dinner, if anybody is interested. All attendees must pay pay CBEC a $5.00 day use or an annual membership fee when they arrive. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR A PFD AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL SAFETY You must have your own equipment and kayak for this paddle. The Organizers and Event Hosts of Wicked Fun Kayakers look out for our paddlers, but we are not trained experts in rescuing paddlers. All trips are organized by volunteers who are experienced kayakers but not professionals or qualified rescue experts. You are responsible for your own personal safety.

Brunswick Kayaking and Camping Weekend

Brunswick Family Campgound

You will need to make your own reservations for the campground. I am in C-8. Spots are going quick, so reserve your spot as early as possible. Their map is very confusing. It was easier for me to call and ask about the sites then to try to figure it out on the map. A and D are for RVs or tents with E/W, very skinny spots in full sun. B and C are for RVs or tents with E/W in the woods, but I am not sure how long the sites are. The bath house is near B and C, but there is a porta-john near A and D. A few of us will be staying for 4 nights so we can do tubing on Monday. You can sign up for that on a separate posting. I will post that soon. Camping for the Weekend.
