What we're about

Inviting ALL interested wiki users, fans and contributors! We are a growing community of diverse wiki contributors, connecting with each other, with meetups in SoCal and online. WikiSoCal launched in April 2016, with a $750 grant from Wikimedia Foundation, gracious hosting of meetups in the San Diego Libraries, and a few dedicated community organizers. Building on partnerships with San Diego Libraries and Balboa Park, WikiSoCal was able to help launch WikiConference North America in October 2016, here in San Diego with four days of events in Balboa Park and at the magnificent downtown San Diego Library. More than 300 wikipedians from all over the world attended the events, connecting with each other face to face in ways that virtual work can't. We are now organizing more events and would welcome suggestions and additional leadership. If you want to help improve the quality of Wikipedia, WikiHow, other wikis or any open source project, we welcome you to connect and collaborate with others that share your interests and passions.

Hike to Boucher Hill Lookout Tower

Boucher Hill Fire Lookout Towers

Everyone is cordially invited to attend a hike to Boucher Hill Lookout Tower in Palomar Mountain State Park. During the 1 mile hike towards, and leaving (an additional 1 mile back), the lookout tower we will be conducting a photographic survey in order to upload media to Wikimedia Commons. This should be the 43rd Wikipedia meetup in San Diego County. Cost: $5-$10 (Reimbursement for fee can be requested) to enter the State Park. ( https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=23887 ) Carpool with other attendees and drive California State Route 76 to County Route S6, then travel west on State Park Road until you reach the parking lot where we will begin our hike. SoCal wiknic

la Jolla Shores Beach

Everyone is cordially invited to attend a Wiknic potluck and bonfire, along with bronies from throughout Southern California, at a location as yet to be determined at La Jolla shores. A permit maybe required if 50 or more people plan to attend. A group of volunteers will arrive soon after sunrise (6:24AM/0624) to reserve a bonfire pit and table(s) near the public restroom and showers on the north end of the parking lot. Balboa Park meetup

Comic-Con Museum

Everyone is cordially invited to attend a meetup at Balboa Park on the weekend before Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day. There passers by will be engaged and invited to become editors/contributors to various open knowledge projects, including those under the umbrella of the Wikimedia Foundation. This should be either the 44th or the 45th meetup to beheld in San Diego County. Balboa Park is centrally located north of Downtown San Diego. The lawn north of the Federal building is due south of the intersection of Presidents Way and Pan American Road. One can drive there, or take public transportation. Within the park there is also a free tram provided to get around, with a stop west of the Federal building.
