Battle of San Pasqual tour
Learning about local history, specifically about the Battle of San Pasqual. Join the SoCal Bronies ( https://www.meetup.com/SoCalBronies/events/250490138/ ), and fellow Wikimedians, as we tour locations related to the 1846 Battle of San Pasqual ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_San_Pasqual ). This will be similar to a staff ride event ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staff_ride ). We will start the day at Starbucks, before driving to the trail head of Battle Mountain Trail, and make our way up the 800+ feet to the cross atop the mountain (which was erected in 1966). Then we will travel the route of the Army of the West through Pasqual Valley (stopping by San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park), before going to south Escondido to the San Dieguito River Park and hike the Mule Hill Trail. The planned route of travel can be found here: https://goo.gl/maps/oXfNX8fg4AA2 Wear comfortable clothing, and good hiking shoes, as we will start the day with a hike up a 803 foot hill ( https://www.100peaks.com/blog/2010/04/23/battle-mountain-peak-34-a-colorful-past-in-rancho-bernardo ). Before the event, it is suggested that one acquaint themselves with the battle by reading through the sources utilized on the Wikipedia page, including (but not limited to) the 1921 book by Coy, the California State Military Museum page on the battle, and the article published about the battle from the U.S. Army's Center of Military History. What we're about

Inviting ALL interested wiki users, fans and contributors! We are a growing community of diverse wiki contributors, connecting with each other, with meetups in SoCal and online. WikiSoCal launched in April 2016, with a $750 grant from Wikimedia Foundation, gracious hosting of meetups in the San Diego Libraries, and a few dedicated community organizers. Building on partnerships with San Diego Libraries and Balboa Park, WikiSoCal was able to help launch WikiConference North America in October 2016, here in San Diego with four days of events in Balboa Park and at the magnificent downtown San Diego Library. More than 300 wikipedians from all over the world attended the events, connecting with each other face to face in ways that virtual work can't. We are now organizing more events and would welcome suggestions and additional leadership. If you want to help improve the quality of Wikipedia, WikiHow, other wikis or any open source project, we welcome you to connect and collaborate with others that share your interests and passions.

For new Wikipedians: To get started contributing to Wikipedia, we recommend first clicking on this link to add your name to our group list: Join WikiSoCal tracker (http://tinyurl.com/wikiSoCalTracker) (this helps us track how many contributors and contributions WikiSoCal is connected with, and makes it easier to go after funding support).

Then you can have fun learning the basics of contributing to Wikipedia by starting with The Wikipedia Adventure (http://tinyurl.com/wikiSoCalTracker).

Then check out and signup for Wiki Project San Diego (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_San_Diego) to see the status of articles that have been tagged as San Diego related.
