MEA July Whine and Dine
Hosted by Winnipeg Write, Edit, Publish
Details
Melva McLean will introduce our speaker for the July Whine and Dine, Keith Cadieux. The topic he will cover is "Editing for Anthologies."
A literary anthology is a unique experience for an editor. While there is always some degree of input and creativity when editing literary work, in the case of an anthology, it is the editor who fully shapes and controls the text. The shape and feel of the finished book is just as much due to careful and precise editing as it is to the individual authors. But this level of control comes with its own responsibilities. How do you choose an interesting anchor to ground your anthology? How do you attract contributors? How do you navigate the various copyright issues? How do you negotiate terms with a publisher? We'll discuss these topics in detail and go through the process of concept to published text.
Keith Cadieux is a Winnipeg writer and editor. His stories have appeared in various Canadian journals and anthologies. As editor, he has worked on The Shadow Over Portage and Main (alongside Dustin Geeraert), published by Enfield & Wizenty, and the New Fantasmagoriana chapbook series, published by the Winnipeg International Writers Festival.
As always, Whine & Dine events are open to all and free to attend. The only charge is the cost of your own meal.
RSVPs are greatly appreciated as they help us make a reasonable reservation beforehand. Please advise us of your plans to attend with a return email to meaworkshops@gmail.com.
But if you decide to join us at the last minute, we'll be happy to squeeze you in.
The MEA hosts Whine & Dine events roughly once a month, featuring varying topics and volunteer speakers.
Please let us know if you would like to speak at a future event (we'll buy you lunch or dinner!) or if you have a suggestion for a speaker or subject. We are open to anything likely to appeal to our members: Writing, editing, publishing, freelancing and self-employment, linguistics, translation, computer skills, etc. We look forward to seeing you.
