The host groups are the Manitoba Writers' Guild, Association of Manitoba Book Publishers, Society for Technical Communication (Manitoba chapter), The Writers' Collective of Manitoba, and the Editors' Association of Canada. MWG Ephemera Writing Challenge

Feel like having some fun and taking a stab at spontaneous writing?
This popular workshop returns, but with a NEW TWIST! First, we will each write three short amusing captions for three pieces of ephemera of our choice. Afterwards, we will each write a longer piece for a single selection from the ephemera on display. Switching up the form will be an exciting exercise for our writing muscle. Just $10 for Members or $20 for Non-Members.
This writing workshop will begin with a presentation of ephemera collected by our fellow Guild member, Heather Emberley, through her volunteer work with the Children’s Hospital Book Market. Each attendee will first be invited to select three items which they feel are interesting and write a humorous or entertaining caption or paragraph about each one. As a followup challenge, each person will select a single item and write a more serious piece about it – a poem, a short story, or even the beginning of a novel. These items, left behind by hundreds of readers over time mostly as bookmarks, are just yearning to evoke a memory, a sentiment or a tempting storyline in your keen writer’s mind. After each writing session, attendees will have the opportunity to read their work for discussion and suggestions.
