Ruby Tuesdays - Mondo

Details

This is a study group and you are welcome to work on anything you would like in our friendly and helpful environment. Organizers and core team members of the Ruby Study group will be present to help you with any Ruby related questions. We welcome many levels of attendees: brand new beginners, coders new to Ruby/Rails, experienced Rubyists, and anyone in between. Work on tutorials, personal projects, or just network!

6:30 - 6:45 Arrive

6:45 - 7:10 Introductions

7:10 - 7:15 Lightning talk on Bash prompts by Pam & Rachel

7:30 Code!

Pam & Rachel are also giving an hour long workshop on customizing your Bash prompt (aka Terminal), which they will hopefully be presenting at Grace Hopper!

Beginners can start the install process:

http://installfest.railsbridge.org/installfest/

Beginner tutorials:

http://tryruby.org/ and http://www.codecademy.com/tracks/ruby

Intermediate:

Can work through tutorials like Learn to Program (http://it-ebooks.info/book/36/), Tic-Tac-Toe (https://github.com/WomenWhoCode/TicTacToeSkeleton) and Connect Four (https://github.com/WomenWhoCode/RubyTuesdays-ConnectFour).

Advanced:

You probably have ideas for what to work on, but if you want practice on Rails, we have a couple test-driven projects that are open for forking: Tic-Tac-Toe (https://github.com/WomenWhoCode/TicTacToeSkeleton) and Connect Four (https://github.com/WomenWhoCode/RubyTuesdays-ConnectFour).

This event is intended to be exclusively open to people who identify as female, and is explicitly queer and trans friendly. We have a Code of Conduct (https://github.com/WomenWhoCode/guidelines-resources/blob/master/code_of_conduct.md) as well.
