What we're about

How about building discipline into your writing sessions, while adding a flavor of fun as well? Be part of an early morning group of novice and accomplished writers in an accepting and encouraging virtual Mon. thru Fri. session. [But show up whenever you can]. We aren't a critique or beta group, and generally, we don't share readings, although the later happens occasionally. We gather on ZOOM at 6:00 a.m., U.S. Pacific Time, warm up with a little writing talk for 15 minutes, then go off-video and off-sound for an uninterrupted 1.5 hours of just writing from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., US, Pacific Time zone. From 8:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., we check in on how we used our writing time. This time could be perfect for you if you've got a work schedule or family obligations later in the day, or if you're in a later time zone anywhere in the world. And you can arrive late and leave early as your day and schedule may require, but if arriving after 6:15 a.m., please arrive off-camera and muted. But why not join us, and move that project to completion?

Monday thru Friday, 6:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.

All writers of all genres, fiction or non-fiction, and all degrees of skill and success, either published or unpublished are welcome to join us.

Why write with us? We’re a way to increase your writing productivity.

  1. Build confidence. Write something each day, and you’re a writer.
  2. Defeat procrastination by using a structured time and place each day for writing with other writers.
  3. Gain momentum and reach milestones. Feel good about making progress.
  4. One finished project leads to another. You can say “I did it!”
  5. Improve in the craft of writing.

RSVP to receive the Zoom Meeting Link.
Arriving late? That's Okay.
Just enter on mute and off video to start writing.

Here's the method to the madness:

Arrive at 6:15 a.m. U.S. Pacific Time. We warm up with a short discussion that usually circles back to the craft we bring to our stories.

We start writing on our individual primary projects promptly at 6:30 a.m. with audio muted & video off. [If you arrive after 6:30, please disable audio and video on arrival.]
We end promptly at 8:00 a.m., unmuting and resuming video.

From 8:00 to 8:15 a.m., we optionally debrief how the work went that morning.

That's it! Simple yes, but challenging. Why not build a consistent habit of writing daily with us?

Why write? Here's Kurt Vonnegut's view: "If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don’t have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.
