This is a writing workshop that will focus on learning a new technique or method each month. A guest speaker will share a sample of their work and then give a writing prompt for everyone to follow.

We'll all write for 30 minutes, and then share our work with others, and receive helpful suggestions about what to improve. Bring your laptops, tablets, or notebook and pen and a willingness to learn.

This month, we'll be hearing from Dan Willis, author of the highly successful "Arcane Casebook" series. He'll be doing his presentation, which he calls Depth Charge.

The presentation deals with how to make any character deep, or at least interesting. The concept is based around the concept of “what does this character want.” As scifi legend Kurt Vonnegut said, “Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.”

As Dan said, "Every main character in your fiction should have 2 wants, an internal want, and an external want. This can sound intimidating, but it’s easier than you think once you know what to look for."

Dan would like everyone to watch this video beforehand: https://youtu.be/TFzkbos0oeo. (Don't worry, it's only 2.5 minutes.)

THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD AT THE NEW WINTER PARK PUBLIC LIBRARY. We will also have a Zoom option for those who want to stay home or are calling in from far away.

If you would like to call in via Zoom, the link is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84677287759.
