We’re doing the first 30 miles of the 70-mile Laurel Highlands hiking trail stretches along Laurel Mountain from the picturesque Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle State Park to the Conemaugh Gorge in western PA starting at Ohiopyle State Park

Seasoned backpackers challenge themselves on the steep, rugged areas of the trails. The trail is the main feature of Laurel Ridge State Park. It traverses state parks, state forests, state game lands, other public lands, and private lands.
Summary: 30 miles, 2 nights. 12 spots are available in shelters that each have a fireplace. Each site has non-potable water so bring those filters! Each site also has a privy. Those that sign up (and pay) will be given the choice of shelter or tent camping until shelter spots are filled, all others will be tent camping. We’ll cap the trip at 20 people total.

3:00PM Hike 6.5 Miles and camp at Ohiopyle shelter- Most elevation gain is in the first 6.5 miles
Arrive at shelter between 5 and 6PM. Setup, cook, campfire, hangout
Sunday May 26
Hike 12 miles to Rt 653 Shelter
Arrive at the shelter mid afternoon- Setup, cook, campfire, hangout
Monday May 27
Hike 12 miles to cars at PA31 Trail Head
