HIKE:
Sunset is at 8PM so we will still attempting to do the 3 climbs to get us to 1200ft elevation gain, with the 3rd climb being optional.

This is an intermediate 5 mile hike (not for beginners), and we will move at a moderate/fast pace of about 3.3mph, and unfortunately with the parking restrictions, we can't wait for slower hikers since we need to finish before dark. There are two (or three) fairly large hill climbs on this Mount Misery/Mount Joy hike, so you need to be in pretty decent shape, and the rocky terrain requires hiking shoes. We need to keep a good pace to be able to finish before dark.

The meeting spot for this hike will be the parking lot at the Knox's Quarters Parking, so use the restrooms before you get here since this lot does not have one.

This is a "dog friendly" hike, if your dog will keep up and is friendly with other dogs, but you can not bring your dog afterwards unless it can stay in the car while we eat/drink. Your dog is your responsibility and needs to be on a leash in order to join on our hikes (I hate this rule too but we need to comply with it).

Friday night- please note there may be shore traffic. The campsite is right off the road and easy to find. There may be limited service.

Saturday morning- we will cross the road to the boat launch at 10:30am. We will launch at 11am and paddle for about 2 hours. There’s no long agenda everyone may do as they please. When we go back to sweetwater we can pull our paddles onto the turf from the boat ramp and we must put them to the side. I am huge on respect for the locations that allow us to show up. There’s beach bars and people can do tables as they wish. First come first serve.

We will paddle back whenever.

Sunday morning some people may bike and there are trails in the pines to hike from Basto.

We have 4 sites for six people each. That does not mean the sites accommodate six tents. Please be mindful of the space. If you are one person with the four person tent, that’s not ideal. The organizers of the event reserve the right to situate each site. Additionally carpooling is highly recommended. If cars do not fit at the site, they can park across the street at the boat ramp.

It will be $12 per person. This covers the reservationsin site and firewood.

Buttonwood campsite is located in Wharton State Forest in egg Harbor city New Jersey. We have the 5 campsites at this site . There is an outhouse, but no water for showering. Across the street from the camping site is a boat launch with flushable toilets and sinks.

The Mullica River is a beautiful spot for paddling. On this river is the Sweetwater Marina and River deck. There is always live music and fun to be had. Additionally, there are plenty of hiking trails through the pine barrens to explore

It is a $10 launch fee. Please be in the water by 11:00am.

There is no set paddle timeframe just what people want to do to enjoy the day. When we paddle back to Sweetwater, it is important that the day paddlers put their equipment back in their car. With so many of us, there is only limited space from the boat launch. It is important that we are respectful of the area. The manager knows that we are coming. The restaurant itself is first come first serve, but there are beach bars when you’re waiting. People can get tables as they wish. It’s a really great outdoor spot with live music.
