Giving Back: Live Mini A11y Testing Sessions to Benefit Local Orgs! (Part 1)

Details
Happy Holidays! It's the season of giving, so we're going with "giving back" as a theme for the next two sessions. We're going to mobilize our group to do some quick, collaborative, live accessibility testing on the home pages of local websites. We'll be testing to WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. Please bring a laptop or mobile phone if you have one to facilitate agile work.
Our goal is twofold:
-
Give back by providing some honest accessibility feedback to local organizations; exact websites for analysis will be crowdsourced at the start of the Meetup (Alaina has reached out to Boulder Valley Humane Society, Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, and Boulder Startup Week to start with)
-
Hone your own skills as an accessibility tester and practice thinking through user experience from the perspective of a person with a disability; we'll go over some quick methods at the start
We'll create a list of feedback for the website owners that we'll reach out and deliver to these orgs after our testing rounds have concluded. Hopefully they will find this helpful, and you'll find it fun!
Be sure to head on over to Bru with us for a delicious beverage or some snacks after the session... Justin will buy the first round. ;)
Cheers,
Alaina and Justin
