If you joined this group to find out what all the hoopla of small flash lighting is about, this event is for you. If you already have a flash, bring it. If not, don’t worry. I will show what you can do with small strobes and how to use them off-camera to create portable studio-type lighting on location.

http://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/4/e/9/event_15346313.jpegThis will be an introduction to wireless small strobe flash lighting. You’ll see how it actually works and more importantly, you can begin to envision how to make it work for you so you can take YOUR photography to the next level.

In this evening class (6:30-9pm) you will learn:

• what it means to take your flash off-camera
• how to fire the flash wirelessly
• how to control light quality and direction
• what equipment to invest in

We will spend the better part of the class reviewing equipment and demonstrating techniques on both Nikon and Canon flashes. The last section of the class we will practice some of these techniques we discussed and shoot both indoors and from a third floor terrace. So definitely bring your cameras and any flash you own.

No specific flash experience required to participate. However you should be familiar with the knobs and dials on your camera and ideally know how to operate it in manual mode. You should have a basic understanding of f/stops and shutter speeds and how they relate to each other as there will not be time to discuss those concepts. This introductory class will focus on Nikon and Canon flash systems only.
