West Portal: Genesis
Details
An overview of the book:
Genesis recounts the creation of the heavens and earth, the formation of humanity in God’s image, and the entrance of sin into the world. It describes the consequences of human rebellion through the Fall, the Flood, and the Tower of Babel. God then calls Abraham and establishes a covenant promising land, descendants, and blessing to all nations through his family. The book follows this covenant through Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, revealing God’s faithfulness and His unfolding plan of redemption.
The aim of our study:
Genesis is a book written to establish, broadly speaking, three main things:
- God is the Creator and sovereign ruler of all things, and humanity is created in His image.
- Sin entered the world through human rebellion, bringing judgment, brokenness, and separation from God.
- God initiates His plan of redemption through His covenant with Abraham, promising to bless all nations through his descendants.
