[Hard] Backpacking to Trampas Lakes and North Truchas

A bit under 6 miles each way, 2526ft elevation gain.

The trail is in good condition. It's never very steep, and follows a stream for much of the way. We'll have great views of the mountains and forest as we go. Once we get to the lakes, there are a large number of nice campsites where we can sleep Saturday night.

On Sunday, I also plan to leave most of my gear in camp and head up to North Truchas with a day pack.

This is a more challenging trail, with a steep rock scramble to get up to the ridge. Once we reach the peak, we'll turn around and take the same route back to Tramps Lakes, and then back to the trailhead. The total distance for Sunday would be about 10.5 miles. I have not done this hike before, so there will be some exploration involved.

That said, this second Sunday hike is completely optional. If you'd like to come to Trampas Lakes and skip Truchas, we can arrange the carpool so whoever wants to leave early, can.

If you join this event, you should have camping equipment and a backpack large enough to carry it. You should have experience carrying the extra weight and be able to manage your own food and water for two full days of hiking. I'd highly recommend bringing a water filter if you have one. I'll be watching the weather as it gets closer, and I may cancel if it looks dicey. Regardless, please pay attention to the weather yourselves and bring appropriate clothing for spending an evening up in the mountains.

We'll meet at the Target on Paseo Del Norte (6100 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87113) at 9:30 AM on Saturday July 5th to carpool. The drive from there to the trailhead is a bit over 2 hours.
