Join Us for a Stunning Alpine Lake Hike & 2 night Camp!
This is a 14.1-mile round trip with approximately 2,982 feet of elevation gain and about 7 miles of hiking on Saturday and Monday. We’ll meet at the Target on Paseo (6100 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87113) at 8:00 AM on Saturday, July 19th to organize carpools. The drive to the trailhead takes about 1.5 hours.
We’ll hike in on Saturday July 19th, set up camp at the lake, and return on Monday, July 21st. While I haven’t personally done this trail yet, I’ve heard great things! The path is in good condition, with plenty of camping spots near the lake and incredible views of the surrounding forest and mountains. On Sunday, I am going to give the option of going up to Santa Fe Baldy peak. There is no official trail so this would be a steep climb/scramble. I’ve heard the views are amazing!! It wouldn’t add much distance, but a lot of elevation.
Important Notes:
-if you are only able to stay 1 night (Saturday night) I understand! If you prefer to go home on Sunday instead of Monday I will be unable to hike with you, but it will be a familiar trail at that point and will be downhill. This will need to be pre-arranged with carpooling.
-This is a strenuous hike, with a high point near 12,000 feet—be prepared for the altitude and elevation gain.
-You’ll need to carry your own gear, including all camping equipment, food, and water. Please make sure you have a backpack large enough for overnight gear and are comfortable hiking with that weight. Here is a link to a helpful backpacking checklist to ensure you’re prepared: https://www.freshoffthegrid.com/backpacking-checklist/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21388988378&gclid=CjwKCAjw4K3DBhBqEiwAYtG_9Mz6gzGEAx5Qk-VMEAAMvlMTF1Gxk4zEMZR1x6Yta72CvxSua_vW1BoCp0wQAvD_BwE
-A water filter is essential—there will be natural water sources, but they must be filtered.
-you will need to pack out all trash. We will be following the leave no trace system to respect the outdoors.
-Be ready for any kind of weather. Conditions can change quickly in the mountains—it may be cold, rainy, or sunny. Bring rain gear no matter what. I’ll monitor the forecast as the date approaches and may cancel if conditions look unsafe, but please also check the weather yourself and pack accordingly.
-Let me know if you have questions or want help preparing. Hope to see you out there!
