(Hard) Santa Fe Baldy Summit via Winsor Trail

Details

Come join us for a hike that will test your endurance and pace. We are hiking to Santa Fe Baldy (12,634 ft) summit. This will be my first time hiking this trail, so it will be as much exploratory for me as for you.

🔹 Trail Overview:
We’ll be hiking Santa Fe Baldy via the Winsor Trail, a challenging but rewarding route of about ~14 miles round trip with ~3,500 feet of elevation gain. The trail starts at Ski Santa Fe parking area trailhead, following up a small ridge and then down into canyon valley and up the cirque ridge before reaching the summit. While the trail is clearly marked and there is no technical climbing required, the length and elevation gain make it a serious day hike. Come prepared and adequately consider your pack weight and items.

🕒 Pace & Expectations:
We’ll start at 8:00 AM at the trailhead to make sure we make pace in order to not get caught up in surprise afternoon rain/storms, while aiming to finish around 3:00 PM. Expect a steady but moderate pace (~2 mph uphill, ~2.5 mph downhill), with breaks for food, water, and photos.

With the coming change in seasons, weather expectations will be around 70s-60s at the trailhead, but could reach near 50s-40s at the summit depending on cloud coverage. Additionally, make sure to bring plenty of snacks and at a minimum 3-4 liters (1 gallon) of water or water filters. We will more than likely pass by streams, so bring a water filter if you think thats the best choice,
