OUR FIRST STOP WILL BE MOROCCO where Oulaid, our guide there, invites us into his family home where he will prepare Friday dinner of 'Moroccan whisky' (mint tea) and chicken tagine with seasonal vegetables.
ONE PERSON WHO HAS BEEN ON TWO RECENT TRIPS to Morocco with the Group was asked which trip they had preferred ... 'the first trip was irreplaceable from the moment of us being invited to Oulaid's family home; beautiful generous people' ... tonight will be a special night.
OULAID LIVES IN THE VILLAGE OF TIMITE in Aït Bouguemez ('Happy Valley') high in the northern reaches of the High Atlas mountains; Mount M'Goun, Morocco's third highest peak at 4,071 metres stands nearby. Timite offers incredible mountain vistas, vast apple orchards and a famous, centuries old, granary store.
RAMADAN 2020 ... approximately fifty families live in Timite and, around fifteen of these families are destitute; £25 will feed a family of six people for one week. And, with Ramadan rapidly approaching (23 April 2020) it is important people have proper nourishment during this month long period of fasting.
THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS are home to the Berber people; their real name is Amazigh, meaning 'free people'. We gain an insight into the life of these friendly people as we learn about their culture, traditions and hospitality.
THE VERY NAME MOROCCO conjures up an enduring fascination, culturally a world apart from neighbouring Europe and an explosion of colour, tradition, soul and spice. Morocco is a country of intrigue with so much to offer - vast mountain ranges, long golden beaches, the spectacular Sahara Desert all interspersed with lush green oases, cascading rivers and rich vineyards.
THE CULTURAL DIVERSITY OF MOROCCO is reflected in its magical architecture from majestic mosques to traditional riads. Many buildings feature the traditional tilework (zellige), decorative carvings and intricate plasterwork.
ALL OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS that accompany this event description have been taken by Oulaid or me.
NEXT WEEK - FRIDAY 24 APRIL 2020 - we visit Hungary where, our hosts there, Mariann will prepare traditional Hungarian green bean goulash whilst Endre serves the palinka 🤣 ... then Pakistan; other countries will hopefully follow.
PLEASE BOOK NOW ... places will be restricted for these events; book now to avoid disappointment.
FUN FRIDAY EVENINGS ... these should make for a series of fun Friday evenings during these restrictive times ... I hope you will join us (starting with the Moroccan night on FRIDAY 17 APRIL 2020).
