Join us for an exhilarating hike to the summit of Bear Peak via the Fern Canyon and West Ridge Trail!
This challenging trek rewards hikers with stunning panoramic views of Boulder and the surrounding mountains.
We'll start our adventure at the Bear Canyon Trailhead, embarking on a semi-steep ascent up the Fern Canyon trail through lush forests and picturesque meadows. This section of the trail is known for its rigorous climb and beautiful scenery, with the trail winding through a diverse array of ferns and fauna.
The summit provides an incredible vantage point, showcasing a 360-degree view of the Front Range, the Indian Peaks, and even the Denver skyline on a clear day.
As we descend the trail, we'll connect with the West Ridge Trail, offering breathtaking views and an amazing lunch locale.
Distance: 9.5 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 2,758 feet
Difficulty: Strenuous
What to Bring:
- Sturdy hiking boots
- Plenty of water (at least 2 liters)
- Snacks and lunch
- Sunscreen and a hat
- Layers of clothing (weather can change rapidly)
- Trekking poles (optional but recommended)
- Camera for capturing the stunning views
Important Notes:
- This hike is strenuous and recommended for experienced hikers in good physical condition.
- Be prepared for a steep and rocky trail with significant elevation gain.
- We will hike at a moderate pace with occasional breaks; please assess your fitness level before joining.
- Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash.
Weather Policy: We may switch to the Green Mtn Trail which is in the trees in case of rain.
