The San Gabriel Valley is Fraught with Native American History, primarily history of the Tongva (Gabrileno) People.
Join me as we explore some of the native ways in which these people lived. The area we will be exploring is filled with natural resources.We will forage for edible plants common to the this tribe, as well as learn to use some of these plants for useful things:
How to make soap from plants How to make cordage from plants How to make fire by rubbing sticks together (Hand Drill) How to Identify useful plants Aromatic Plants How to use cactus for food and medicine We will be hiking and exploring through this resource filled environment, so bring appropriate clothing.

We'll gather and meet at the Santa Fe Dam Nature Center
From the 605 FWY, take the Live Oak or Arrow Hwy exit and go East. On Azusa Cyn Rd, make a left and follow the road up the hill to the park entrance. come down on the other side of the dam, at the first STOP sign, make a right. ( NOTE: because of the ren fair, this first stop sign is where park attendants may be collecting money for park entrance... This is the first stop sign where you make a right. Follow the road to the second STOP sign and make a left. Follow that road back to the nature center. look for the Navy Blue Expedition with a dirttime.com survival skills sticker on the back window.

Be advised, there is a park vehicle entry fee of $10. If you wish not to pay the fee, you can always park somewhere outside the park and walk back to the nature center or ride a bike. (about 1.25 miles back to the nature center). You may consider carpooling with your friends to help offset the vehicle entry fee.
