Bike and Munch!: Owensboro, KY
Details
We're heading to Friday After 5 in Owensboro, KY for some live music and food. Come on out!
The intent of this weekly adventure has four parts:
- To increase our fitness.
- To meet some cool, likeminded adventurers.
- To find and try new places to eat.
- To get our butts used to the bike seat!
THIS WEEK'S PLAN is to meet in Owensboro, KY at the Greenbelt Miller's Mill Trailhead at 5pm Eastern. We'll enjoy a nice leisurely ride down a paved rail trail. Once we reach the end of the trail, we'll ride a few streets to get down to the waterfront. Once we're down to the waterfront we'll assess the situation and decide if we want to bring our bikes along or lock them up and go for a walk. I've never been down there, so be prepared for either choice (bring a bike lock). Now it's time to check out the food options and all that Owensboro's waterfront has to offer.
I'm not exactly sure of the distance. Expect to ride roughly ten miles to get down to the waterfront. This will be a slow paced ride and we'll take breaks as often as needed. There is no rush and the goal is to enjoy the day and company.
These will be out-and-back rides. If you aren't comfortable or unsure of the distance. Let me know and I can meet you at the waterfront (I don't know the parking situation) and shuttle you and your bike to the start. That way you can start with half the distance and build up to the full ride.
These will not be fast rides. 7-10 mph average speed. This is a social ride and don't you forget it!
Eventually, I'm hoping to get more people interested in bikepacking so that we can do some exploration by bike. Kayaking will always be my number one activity. However, there is a lot to see on land and this is a fun way to explore.
WARNINGS:
There is NO OVERHEAD COVER. You will be exposed to the sun for the entire ride. Please plan accordingly.
It's going to be HOT. Bring plenty of fluids and some sort of electrolyte replacement. The sun will always try to end your adventure. Don't let it.
We will likely be RIDING AT NIGHT. FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED. We may be mostly biking dedicated trails, but we need to plan for street crossings and potential detours along streets.
Rentals are available. Send me a message if you need one.
