This scenic circular route begins in Sandy and takes us through a diverse mix of woodland, heathland, and open countryside. We'll start by heading into the RSPB Sandy Warren Nature Reserve, where you may spot a variety of birdlife and enjoy peaceful trails through pine and broadleaf woodland.From there, the route continues through Sandy Heath, with its gently undulating landscape, before reaching the historic Potton Windmill, a striking landmark nestled among fields. The walk then winds through the charming village of Everton, offering a perfect spot for a mid-walk break.
The return journey follows part of the Greensand Ridge Walk, offering far-reaching views and a mix of shaded woodland and open tracks, before looping back into Sandy. Expect a moderately long but mostly gentle walk with a mix of terrain and good paths throughout ideal for walkers with a reasonable level of fitness looking to explore the Bedfordshire countryside.
Highlights include:
RSPB Sandy Warren Nature Reserve - A beautiful, peaceful area of heath and woodland managed by the RSPB. Great for spotting birds, especially woodpeckers, nuthatches, and even occasional birds of prey.
Sandy Heath - Open heathland and pine woodland with wide, sandy paths. Potton Windmill - A striking 19th-century post mill (privately owned but visible from the path). It's a rare and picturesque landmark in the middle of open countryside great for a photo stop.

This hike is a step up from our moderate routes, ideal for women who are building stamina and looking to challenge themselves a bit more. The 18.5 km distance puts it in the challenging range, but the terrain and pace make it achievable if you're comfortable being on your feet for several hours and ready for a longer adventure. A great in-between walk for those progressing from Grade 2 to Grade 3.What to Wear and Bring:
- Our walks go ahead in all weather, so dress appropriately. Always carry a waterproof jacket.
- Check the forecast and bring sun cream, a hat, or sunglasses for warm days, and waterproofs, a warm hat, and gloves for cold or wet days.
- Wear trousers or leggings to reduce the risk of tick bites and nettle stings. Avoid denim or cotton.
- Sturdy walking shoes or boots are essential. Open-toe shoes are unsuitable.
- Bring at least 1.5 litres of water, lunch, and snacks, as there may be no opportunities to buy food or drinks along the route.

A scenic introductory hike with coastal views, historical landmarks, and quiet beaches. Starting at Bembridge Windmill, the islands oldest windmill, we will walk through rolling countryside towards Culver Down, where panoramic views stretch across the coastline. We will explore Bembridge Foreland and stop at Whitecliff Bay Beach, a secluded spot perfect for dipping your toes in the sea. The walk finishes with a cafe stop in Bembridge before we head back to our lakeside accommodation
Day 2: Brook Bay to The Undercliff Circular Distance: 16.7 km | Elevation Gain: 424m | Time: 5 to 6 hours with breaks | Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging 3 out of 5
This stunning countryside walk takes us through ancient burial sites, sweeping downlands, and historic villages. Starting at Brook Bay, we will ascend Dunsbury Down, passing the Bronze Age Five Barrows burial mounds, and continue across Mottistone Common with its expansive views. The route continues through Castle Hill and Calbourne Bottom before reaching Brightstone Down and Limestone Down, with panoramic vistas of the islands rolling hills. We will descend toward the coast via Brightstone and Chilton Chine, finishing with a scenic stretch along The Undercliff, where lush cliffs and hidden coves offer a beautiful finale
Day 3: Fort Victoria, Freshwater Bay and The Needles Circular Distance: 19 km | Elevation Gain: 441m | Time: 6 to 7 hours with breaks | Difficulty: Challenging 4 out of 5
A spectacular coastal and countryside walk showcasing The Needles, Freshwater Bay, and Fort Victoria Country Park. Starting and finishing at Fort Victoria, we will follow the coastline towards Colwell Bay and Totland Bay, before climbing Tennyson Down for breathtaking views of The Needles and Alum Bay’s colorful sands. After exploring The Needles Battery (National Trust), we will descend to Freshwater Bay Beach, a quiet pebble beach perfect for a break or paddle. The return route takes us through woodlands and farmland, ending back at Fort Victoria, where we can explore the nature trails and enjoy a coastal cafe stop before heading back to our accommodation
Day 4: Ventnor Downs and Appuldurcombe Circular with Secluded Beach Visit
Distance: 12.8 km | Elevation Gain: 388m | Time: 4 to 5 hours with breaks | Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging 3.5 out of 5Our final walk takes us over the Ventnor Downs, the highest point on the Isle of Wight, offering incredible sea views. We will descend through St. Martin’s Wood, where there is another chance to spot red squirrels, before exploring the ruins of Appuldurcombe House, an elegant 18th-century mansion. After the walk we will head to Steephill Cove, a hidden sandy beach with a small cafe, perfect for a final paddle or relaxing with an ice cream before heading home

Day 1: Levisham Moor & The Hole of Horcum Circular Distance: 12 km | Elevation Gain: 320m | Time: 4 - 4.5 hours (with breaks) | Difficulty: Moderate 2.5/5
We start the weekend with a stunning circular hike across Levisham Moor, a wild and open landscape where the rolling hills of the North York Moors unfold before us. The highlight of this walk is the Hole of Horcum, a vast natural amphitheatre with a fascinating legend—said to have been formed by a giant scooping up a handful of earth! Expect open skies, incredible views, and a great introduction to the moors.
Day 2: Coastal Walk – Whitby to Boggle Hole Distance: 15.5 km | Elevation Gain: 480m | Time: 5.5 - 6.5 hours (with breaks) | Difficulty: Hard 3.5/5
Today, we swap the moors for the coast, following the Cleveland Way from the historic town of Whitby towards Robin Hood’s Bay, with an optional detour to Boggle Hole. Expect spectacular cliff-top views, sea air, and a chance to explore the charming fishing villages that once harboured smugglers. There will be time to soak in the atmosphere at Robin Hood’s Bay before we return to whitby via taxi or local transport.
Day 3: Blakey Ridge & Rosedale Abbey Circular Distance: 17 km | Elevation Gain: 400m | Time: 5.5 - 6.5 hours (with breaks) | Difficulty: Moderate to Hard 3.5/5
This walk takes us into one of the wildest parts of the North York Moors, exploring the expansive landscapes of Blakey Ridge and Rosedale Moor. Following the route of a disused railway, we’ll pass the ruins of old ironstone mines, offering a fascinating look into the area’s industrial past. At the high point on Blakey Ridge, we’ll be rewarded with incredible panoramic views, before descending into Rosedale Abbey, a charming village nestled in the valley. This walk is a fantastic mix of remote moorland, history, and stunning vistas, making it one of the best hikes in the National Park.
Day 4: Goathland, Mallyan Spout & Simon Howe Circular Distance: 13.2 km | Elevation Gain: 376m | Time: 4 - 4.5 hours (with breaks) | Difficulty: Moderate 3/5
Our final walk takes us through ancient woodlands and open moors, starting in Goathland, a village famous for its role in the TV series Heartbeat. We’ll visit Mallyan Spout, a spectacular 21m waterfall, before weaving through forests, streams, and the hamlet of Beck Hole. A final climb takes us to Simon Howe, a prehistoric standing stone site offering far-reaching views over the moors—a perfect ending to an incredible weekend.

The hikes are medium / hard in difficulty, featuring some steep gradients and uneven ground. You need to be physically capable of hiking for up to 7 hours. To join the hike, make sure you're dressed appropriately, as inappropriate attire will result in non-participation.Safety and Guidelines:
