Cross Country Ski weekend trip to the Canaan Valley, WV

They say we might get a colder and snowier winter this year-- we'll keep our fingers crossed! We’ll plan to spend the weekend skiing at the White Grass Nordic Center in the Canaan Valley, WV about three hours from DC. The Canaan Valley has some of the best snow for cross-country in the Mid-Atlantic area, and White Grass the most extensive network of trails for all levels and services for skiers.

We’ll drive up Friday evening, stay in cabins at Blackwater Falls State Park Friday and Saturday nights, and return Sunday. We’ll ski at White Grass Saturday and maybe Sunday. There are also some downhill ski areas in the vicinity. Or on our return Sunday we might stop along the way to hike at Seneca Rocks.

We’ll share two cabins at Blackwater Falls, 6-8 people per cabin, each with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining area and kitchen, and we’ll plan to eat there, at least dinner Saturday and for breakfasts.

Participants will share in the costs of the cabins ($100 - $180 per participant for the weekend, depending on the final count), and in the cost of the group food and beverages.

Participants are responsible for their own costs at White Grass:
- trail fees ($25)
- equipment (skis, boot, poles) rental ($25)
- lessons ($10 or $25)

Participants are responsible for their own travel to the Canaan Valley. We will organize carpools, for which there will be a fee to the driver of approx. $35 per rider.

A $50 deposit will be required to secure a spot on the trip.
