We start our hike in historic Point of Rocks, Maryland where a land rights battle between the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad companies ended up in court. The dispute? Who was the rightful owner of a small sliver of land between the Potomac River and a nearby mountain? Who won? The winner will be revealed during the hike as history unfolds before our eyes.

After our look into history, we'll continue northward along the canal to the scenic Catoctin Creek Aqueduct before returning to our cars. This 7-mile hike is rated as easy, which is generally suitable for anyone who enjoys walking. Mostly level or with a slight incline on a natural surface. After the hike, we may take an optional trip into Point of Rocks for light refreshments at a local establishment.

Bring water, lunch, snacks, sturdy footwear, and about $10 for transportation and Adventuring trip fee**. Meet at 9:00 a.m., at the "west side" of the Rockville Metro station to form carpools. We'll gather at the Kiss & Ride lot on the of MD-355 side. On the way, we'll make a stop at Sheetz for any last-minute snacking needs. RSVPs will open two weeks before the event and close at 7 p.m. the day before the hike.

**Effective immediately, Adventuring will waive the $5 trip fee for any federal employee or contractor who has been furloughed during the current Shutdown. Trip participants will still have to pay their share of transportation costs.
