https://mazamas.org/activity/instance/12102/We'll begin in oak grasslands at Ball Point trailhead, gradually ascending to a primitive campsite overlooking the Gnome Rocks.
Next day, we'll return along Little Badger Creek, passing an abandoned cabin and mine tunnel. As a gradual trek with water sources, this trail is more suitable for novice hikers while still offering a challenge.
8.3 miles, 1650'. Drive 182.
If new to AYM trips, please review our hiking rules. For new backpackers, please consult the REI checklist to ensure you have adequate gear. Hikers are asked to explore outside the mine only. Hikers must be in good physical condition and bring food and water.

Wildflowers be popping so what better way to spending the evening of Friday Jr. than with a hike up dog mountain WITH DOGS?!
Most of us probably know the Dog Mountain Loop by know, but for those who have never been or its been a minute, we'll go up the "very difficult" trail and ascend until we enter a field of beautiful balsam root π». We'll keep going up, past Puppy Dog Point, until we reach the summit, where we'll take a rest, have a lil picnic, and enjoy the views. We'll then go back down the fields of flowers and take the "difficult" route on the way back to complete the loop.
We'll likely be hiking in the dusk/dark, so come prepared with a headlamp!
Pupticipants are welcome, but out of respect to other hikers we are limiting the number of doggos to 5. Please indicate when you register if you plan to bring your pup by emailing aym@mazamas.org. All pup-ticipants must be well behaved and get along with other puppers. Any participant who attempts to bring a dog who does not indicate to us by email that they will be bringing a dog will not be permitted on the hike.

Itinerary (4-5 Days, 25-30 Miles):
- Day 1: Begin your journey at the Foley Ridge Trailhead. Prepare for a scenic ascent through mountain hemlocks, offering glimpses of distant peaks. Camp near Eileen Lake, enjoying the tranquility of the wilderness. (7 miles, moderate elevation gain)
- Day 2: Continue along the ridgeline, encountering meadows bursting with wildflowers (depending on season) and panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape.
- Day 3: Hike along the established trails within the wilderness. Depending on your chosen route, you might encounter scenic glacial valleys, explore the base of Middle Sister or North Sister, or visit iconic landmarks like Obsidian Cliff. Return
