Market projections show large growth in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) devices. Today on the market, there are a number of virtual reality device headsets but all are mostly designed and marketed for entertainment. Basic augmented reality in the form of 2D images superimposed on video or pictures on our cellphones (e.g. Pokémon or Instagram filters) also exists today, mainly for entertainment. The ability to project 3D images into a user’s field of view has many exciting applications in the industrial space with the ability to provide real-time information or images fixed in-space to a real-world object. Microsoft calls this - mixed reality.
With HoloLens, holograms become part of the real world and enable interaction with the real and virtual worlds in a natural way. Rune will share some of the technical challenges and triumphs as well as illustrate several practical applications of the HoloLens technology. Microsoft is hoping HoloLens 2 will be used for everything from design, data analysis, medical imaging, standard computing, gaming, and more.
We'll have demos of HoloLens 2 before and after the presentation
