About us
AI is already finding its way into nonprofit work: grant writing, donor communications, meeting notes, reporting, operations, board preparation, volunteer coordination, community feedback, and the daily administrative burden that sits behind every mission.
This monthly Portland meetup is for nonprofit people who want to understand AI in a practical, careful, and peer-supported way.
It is not a sales event, a vendor showcase, or a technical lecture. It is a room for nonprofit staff, leaders, board members, funders, volunteers, consultants, organizers, and mission-driven technologists to compare notes on what is actually useful, what is risky, what is confusing, and what should be handled with care.
Each month will include a series of short five-minute learning talks, longer arranged sessions, practical examples, and open conversation. You might hear about a prompt that improved a donor letter, a workflow for grant research, a privacy rule an organization adopted, a tool someone tested, or a mistake others should avoid.
You do not need to be an AI expert, and you do not need a technical background. You may be curious, cautious, skeptical, already experimenting, or simply trying to understand what your organization should do next.
If you have something useful to share but do not want to speak publicly, you can submit a short slide deck, note, prompt, workflow, or question, and Surj or Weston can present it for you.
Bring one thing you have learned, or one thing you are trying to understand.
Leave with better examples, better questions, and other Portland nonprofit people thinking carefully about the same issues.

Aug 2026 - Ai for Nonprofits: Portland
Capital One Café (Upstairs), 625 SW Broadway, Portland, OR, USRSVP for the very first meetup of AI for Nonprofits - Portland.
Ninety minutes, and the shape every month after will be the same:
• Short talks (5 minutes): someone shows one thing that actually worked - a prompt that improved a real donor letter, a privacy rule a real board adopted. Real work, shown working. No slides required.
• One deeper conversation: this month - what we're actually using AI for and where we've drawn the line. Small groups, honest notes.
• Field Notes follow up: within two days, everyone gets the write-up from the meetup. Prompts discussed, ideas shared, and more. Lessons travel; names don't.

You do not need to be an AI person.
