What we're about

Amnesty International USA Washington, DC Chapter supports Amnesty International USA's vision of a world in which every person enjoys the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments. We organize events? such as concerts, protests and vigils? that raise awareness of human rights violations and inform the public about what can be done to oppose these violations. We also advocate on behalf of prisoners of conscience and other victims of human rights violations at every meeting by participating in Amnesty's ongoing urgent action letter writing campaign.

The Groups of the Washington DC Chapter meet on Tuesdays in Cleveland Park, and Capitol Hill, SE, DC.

We welcome new members, ideas and interests and encourage you to check our calendar for next general meeting or event!

We will be writing on cases from Chinese Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Cuba, France, Morocco and Western Sahara, Paraguay, Russia and Zimbabwe. Light refreshments will be served.

We will also be screening 'The Facility', a documentary about immigration detention. One of the former detainees highlighted in the documentary, Nilson Barahona, we will be give an introduction to the film and we will have a Q&A after the film screening. Nilson is the founder of 'ICE Breakers', a non-profit dedicated to awareness, communication and activism on immigration and immigration detention issues.
