About us
Amnesty International USA Washington, DC Chapter supports Amnesty International USA's vision of a world in which every person enjoys the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments. We organize events? such as concerts, protests and vigils? that raise awareness of human rights violations and inform the public about what can be done to oppose these violations. We also advocate on behalf of prisoners of conscience and other victims of human rights violations at every meeting by participating in Amnesty's ongoing urgent action letter writing campaign.
The Groups of the Washington DC Chapter meet on the second Wednesday of the month in Cleveland Park and on various days in Capitol Hill, SE, DC.

DMV Area Write for Rights 2026
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G St NW, Washington, DC 20001, USA, Washington, DC, USGet your write on! Hi everyone, it’s that time of year again! We in the DMV Area Amnesty International USA local groups (Arlington, Capitol Hill, Northwest and Potomac), have highlighted 10 cases in countries that include Mali, El Salvador, Pakistan, Tunisia, Hong Kong/China, Tanzania, Russia, and Egypt, across a multitude of issues such as immigration, freedom of speech, and housing rights. We will be in the MLK Library writing letters on behalf of individuals who are at risk for advocating for human rights. There will be limited bottles of water, but largely it will be BYOD with the covered drinks listed in the library's Code of Conduct: Code of Conduct | District of Columbia Public Library.
