What we're about

Who We Are: Alameda Artists is a Meetup group for all Bay Area Artists and Creatives.

The Alameda Artist Group is for all creative media and practicing at all skill levels. (And you don't have to live in Alameda!) Most meetups are in Alameda but anyone who wants to sketch and draw and make art is welcome. We also have writing meetups, open studio/galleries shows, calls for art, maker space workshops, and many more creative meetups - don't see what you want? Suggest it!

This year (2019) we will be adding some new items to the agenda!

2. Ongoing Call For Art: Studio 23 (http://www.studio23gallery.com) will be accepting submissions every month for the Alameda & Jingletown 2nd Friday Artwalk. Visit http://www.alamedaartists.com/submit-art/ for more information.

3. 3 Dot & Inkblot join Alameda Artists Meetup! 3 Dot (http://www.3dotartgallery.com/) and Inkblot (https://www.inkblotgallery.com/) are local Alameda galleries that host special events, show local artists and have classes. They will now be posting their events and art classes right here on Meetup!

Several more local art events and classes will continue to pop up over 2019 so keep checking back.

Our Mission:
Inspire others or be inspired, learn new techniques to implement or brush up on some old ones. Hone your craft and meet new people with similar interests.

Artist's are currently very active on Facebook, selling work, sharing techniques and cool upcoming art events. Be sure to join us on social media!

Visit us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/groups/alamedaarti (https://www.facebook.com/groups/alamedaartists/)...

Costs: The cost of each class or event will vary depending on supplies needed and the location it is being held. The cost for the class will be announced in the details of that particular event page when the event is created.

Donations go to pay for Meetup.com fees, group art shows, snacks, drinks, rent and other various art supplies. Your donations are appreciated! Suggested donation is on a sliding scale $5-$10.

Don't let the donation suggestion stop you from coming to an art meetup if it is listed as FREE. We want every artist to have a place that they are welcome. However, paid classes are different and that fee would be required to participate. We are supported by local businesses who sponsor us like Flax (https://flaxart.com/oakland-store/) and Digifli (https://digifli.com/).

IMPORTANT! If less then 3 members RSVP for a meetup the meetup may be canceled right up to within a few hours before that meetup. Please check back the day of the meetup and look for cancelation notices in your email. We will do our best to inform you that a meetup has canceled asap.

RSVPs
Please do not RSVP unless you really plan on coming so we know how many artists to expect. If you do RSVP and can NOT make it (even at the last minute or after the event has started) please CHANGE your RSVP so we are not waiting for you!

2019 12 Month Challenge Still Life Study

Studio 23

Still Life Study: This session will last 4 hours with one break in the middle. Still life drawings are drawings of non-living objects, arranged in a specific way, to create meaning or a visual effect. Common still life objects include things like flowers, fruits, vegetables, and other foods and beverages. This particular practice helps hone skills like perspective, shadows, negative space, depth & so much more. For some this will come naturally, for others it is a discipline. But everyone can benefit from it. This Meetup is on the Sunday following Alameda's 2nd Friday Art Walk. So most of the time it falls on 2nd Sunday, sometimes it falls on the 3rd Sunday. Come get to know other local artists and set time aside to make art with us! 2PM-3:30 Snack, Drink, Draw, Paint. 3:30-4PM Pair in teams to critique each others work. (Optional, no one is forced to share their work.) 4-6PM Complete work. Make sure you leave time for drying if you are painting. What to bring: *Sketchbook, paper or canvas *Paints, pencils, ink, etc *Feel free to bring snacks, drinks although We may also have some snacks/drinks available for a small donation. *Indoor and/or outdoor depending on the number of attendees. So dress appropriately. Note: We also will have limited art supplies to share and a few easels around as well. Suggested donation is $5-$10+. We use this to buy supplies, snacks, drinks as well as pay rent and meetup.com group fees. Your donations keep our doors open. * IMPORTANT (read below) *Parking: Please do not park in the Studio 23 Parking lot. The cleaners and local residents own these parking spots and they do tow! There is nearby street parking available on Oak Street and Encinal. All street parking is free on Sundays. There is also a parking garage between Central and Santa Clara Ave that is free on weekends as well as a parking lot directly across from the Alameda Theater. More parking info: https://alamedaca.gov/visitors/parking *Indoor and/or outdoor depending on the number of attendees. So dress appropriately. We prefer to keep this donation based so no one is ever turned away. However, please only RSVP if you are sure you are coming. You can RSVP up until the night before. *These meetups are about making art. Please keep phone calls outside (away from the group) as well as loud or lengthy conversations. We love for people to connect, that is what we are all about. Please just use common sense and be considerate of other artist's time. We welcome feedback on new meetup ideas for 2019 and other ways on improving our group!
