Join the Alaskan Prospectors Society for a special evening with Dr. Katie Ringsmuth , Alaska State Historian with the Office of History & Archaeology (Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation).
Dr. Ringsmuth is leading Alaska’s participation in the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations. She is spearheading Alaska Week of Dreams — the state’s flagship event honoring America’s Semiquincentennial in 2026 — and represents Alaska on the statewide Alaska Baseball 250 coalition. This unique collaboration brings together cultural organizations, tourism professionals, historians, and sports leaders to create meaningful ways for Alaskans to celebrate and reflect on our shared history.
With a deep background in public history, Dr. Ringsmuth has taught history at the University of Alaska Anchorage and has worked closely with the National Park Service, the Anchorage Museum, and the Alaska Historical Society. She is also an accomplished author of five books, including:
Alaska’s Skyboys: Cowboy Pilots and the Myths of the Last Frontier
At Work in the Wrangells: A Photo History 1895–1966 (featuring historic images of Chitina and the Million Dollar Bridge)
In this presentation, Dr. Ringsmuth will share insights into Alaska’s role in the national 250th anniversary, the planning behind “Week of Dreams,” how history shapes our identity as Alaskans, and what exciting events and opportunities are coming for our state in 2026.
Whether you’re a history buff, outdoor enthusiast, or simply curious about how Alaska is marking this once-in-a-generation national milestone, this is a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from the historian guiding the state’s efforts.
