Crimes Against Women & Children
Details
Join the Alaskan Prospectors Society for an important and informative evening with Lt. Ken Bushue of the Anchorage Police Department.
Lt. Bushue supervises four specialized APD detective units:
- Special Victims Unit
- Crimes Against Children Unit
- Cyber Crimes Unit (Alaska's ICAC Task Force – Internet Crimes Against Children)
- Domestic Violence Unit
Together, these units include 21 highly trained detectives and handle the most serious felony-level cases involving sexual assaults, child abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and online crimes against children — including the investigation and prosecution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and sextortion.
Much of this critical work happens through the Multi-Disciplinary Center, in close partnership with the Child Advocacy Center, Forensic Nursing Services at Providence, the Office of Children’s Services, Southcentral Foundation, and STAR advocates. This coordinated team approach helps minimize trauma to victims while building strong cases for justice.
In this presentation, Lt. Bushue will cover:
- How these complex investigations actually work — from initial report to prosecution
- How to recognize the signs of these crimes in your community or family
- Practical steps you can take right now to protect yourself, your children, and your loved ones
- Current crime statistics for Alaska with a focus on Anchorage (including the latest available data on domestic violence, sexual assault, and crimes against children)
- Helpful contacts and resource information that he’ll bring to distribute
This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of Anchorage’s top experts in these sensitive areas. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, concerned community member, or simply want to be better informed and prepared, you’ll leave with actionable knowledge and local resources.
Note: This topic involves serious crimes and can be emotionally heavy, but the focus will be on education, prevention, and empowerment.
We encourage you to attend and bring questions.
