About us

The purpose of this group is to build a community of people who enjoy watching films, discussing films, and spending time with other film lovers.

We welcome people of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, etc. Our only requirement is that you enjoy movies.

We mostly watch movies, but frequently go to dinner together before/after watching movies and frequently discuss movies over drinks/snacks after movies.

We also have fun non-film events that are focused on building our movie community.

WFF: Ukrainian Culture Night 2: dinner @ The Hill in Troy & a Ukrainian film.

The Hill, 379 Congress Street, Troy, NY, US

This is our second event celebrating Ukrainian culture. Although we're starting at the same restaurant, we're excited to introduce you to a scary Ukrainian movie to celebrate Halloween after dinner (thanks to Jim Reed, who is lending us his copy of the movie).

At 4:30, we'll arrive at The Hill Restaurant at 379 Congress Street, in Troy. They have a chicken schnitzel sandwich, a couple of kielbasa sandwiches, and a wide variety of pierogi dishes that, I'm told, are commonly encountered in Ukraine (as well as other Eastern European countries). Additionally, one of their desserts is an apple pierogi. And they have at least two Ukrainian beers!

Please note the early start time. I want us to feel less rushed. It's okay if you get there at 5 or 5:30 (or even 6), but let us know if you'll be arriving late so we can let the restaurant know.

Here's a description from their website:

"Troy’s Hidden Gem:

Nestled in the hills of Troy, our European-inspired beer garden is a hidden gem for those who crave the perfect blend of nature, flavor, and community. We offer a unique year-round outdoor dining experience featuring a curated selection of local and imported beers, as well as a kitchen that serves up hearty American and European fare. Whether you're here for a crisp lager, a savory pretzel, or simply to relax under the string lights, our beer garden is a place to savor life's simple pleasures. Join us and discover the charm of Troy's best-kept secret."

I'll leave there at about 6:30 to set up. Anyone who hasn't been to the movie venue before is recommended to follow me because it's a little tricky to find the first time, but others can leave a little later (by about 6:45), in order to get there between 7:00 and 7:15.

We'll provide some light snacks and soft drinks before my introduction to the movie at about 7:30.

We only ask for a $5/person donation. What a bargain! (Please don't take the WFF's snacks or beverages home with you.)

Please let me know if you will be able to join us for dinner, the movie, or both. Also, please let me know how many people are in your party

I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

P.S.: My apologies to those who signed up for the WFF's email list, but didn't get this month's or last month's events' emails. Unfortunately, my phone died and I lost my email addresses for my Hotmail accounts.

Please send me your email again in a private message if you signed up and aren't receiving the emails.
