PHFS presents: The Haunting, 1963, @ The Steamer No. 10 Theater.
Details
"The next film to be shown on Sunday, October 4th, 7:00 pm, at Steamer No. 10 Theatre in Albany is “The Haunting” (1963), horror, IMDB: 7.4, CC, B&W, 112 min.
One of the creepiest haunted house movies ever made. Hill House seems to be alive and to bring bad ends to everyone who enters it. It starts as the usual movie of this type (Vincent Price did at least one), an academic is determined to find out once and for all if the house is haunted. He invites a group of fellow travelers to join him, but soon things go downhill. Poor Julie Harris is a tortured soul who volunteers to join the group to get away from her horrible and abusive family, she probably should have stayed with them. There is no blood, no screaming jump scares, but the terror is there.
Screenplay by Shirley Jackson who wrote the book “The Haunting Of Hill House”, the basis of this movie. She also wrote “The Lottery”, if you haven’t read that, do so now. With Julie Harris, looking frail and vulnerable, Claire Bloom. Directed by Robert Wise (The Day The Earth Stood Still, The Sound Of Music, West Side Story).
Suggested donation: $5."
