What we’re about
This group is operated by the Adirondack Mtn. Club - Albany Chapter (4/12/2023).
We are a very active local group dedicated to conservation, advocacy, recreation, education and stewardship of New York's wilderness areas. We sponsor a wide range of outdoor activities ranging from hiking, backpacking, padding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing to educational programs, monthly meetings and social events for people who love the outdoors. We also support efforts to protect and preserve New York's wilderness areas. Be sure to check out our extensive listing of scheduled outings at:

See all- ADK Evening Paddle - Lock 7 Mohawk RiverLock 7 Boat Launch, Niskayuna, NY
Note: A good rule of thumb to follow is the "120° rule." This means you should wear a wetsuit or dry suit whenever the sum of the air temperature and water temperature is equal to or less than 120°F. Warm weather does not cancel out the danger of cold water. If you don't have the appropriate attire for cold-water paddling, please wait to join us until the water is warmer.
Be on the water BEFORE 6:00 p.m. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm.
From the Northway, drive west on Rt. 7 for 4.5 miles and take a right on Mohawk Rd. Take a Left on Rosendale Rd for a short distance, and take a right on Lock 7 Rd. As you approach the lock, bear left to the boat launch.
We will paddle upstream past high cliffs and interesting rock formations.
Please sign up at auntmayor@aol.com by noon on the day of the paddle and give your cell phone number for last minute changes, which will be announced via text if conditions change.
You must wear a securely fastened PFD, and have a white light (required!) and whistle. No cotton clothing.
See General Paddling info for evening paddling trips.

Plan on joining us for the PCM (Paddlers Committee Meeting, all attendees are automatically members of the "Committee") after the outing. This season we will continue to have Picnic PCMs (BYOEverthing - snack, beverage, chair, ... ) but also look for refreshment at pubs near the launch site, especially those with outdoor seating.
