Eminent domain controversies are heating up here in NM; in regards to state-sanctioned public access to private waterways and energy transmission corridors in Eastern New Mexico.

Lets get together to talk about the ethics and morality of government overriding property rights for development perceived to serve a greater good to the community.

To prime our discussion, we've chosen Little Pink House (1hr:39m). (description below)

Please watch the film before the event and come ready to discuss it; we hope everyone will come with questions to ask the group (although the organizers will prepare questions to get the discussion started).

Film description:
A biographical drama starring Catherine Keener as Susette Kelo, a nurse who fought a landmark eminent domain case against the city of New London, CT, to save her home from being seized for private development. The film depicts her battle, which went to the Supreme Court in Kelo v. City of New London, and controversial 5-4 decision that allowed the government to take private property for economic development, though the planned development ultimately failed.

The Little Pink House (2017) is available to stream free on Tubi, Pluto, PLEX and other subscription platforms. Please view the film at your leisure in advance of the meetup and come prepared to discuss eminent domain!
