Let's enjoy a hike at Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary! Although a mild day with a nice breeze is in the forecast, we'll start a little early to beat the summer heat.
The route: Starting from the parking lot in front of the Wetlands Center, we'll walk counter-clockwise along the Brown Loop (Otter Trail, Railroad Bed Trail, Two Run Trail and the Utility Road), interrupted along the way to walk counterclockwise along the Red Loop Trail (Farm Trail, Pindell Bluff Trail, and the Upper RR Bed Trail, excluding the Beech Trail), and finishing the rest of the Brown Loop Trail to return to the Wetlands Center.
This hike consists of two consecutive counter-clockwise loops for a total of just over 5 miles of smiles, and should take about 3 hours, depending on breaks and sightseeing. If desired, hikers can cut it short by doing only the Brown Loop and returning to the Wetlands Center, for a total of only 2.2 miles. The surface is gravel roads, boardwalks, and dirt paths, with several footbridges and some mild elevation changes here and there. This is an easy to moderate hike.
