Back by popular demand - another Saturday morning Canal jaunt. This will be a straight hike with a simple loop - no creeks, no rocks, no hills - just plenty of elbow room for conversation.

● What we'll do:

  • From the Billy Goat Trail C - North Parking Lot, we’ll walk upstream along the C&O Canal towpath to the Stop Gate, cross the canal, head downstream along Berma Road to Angler's Footbridge, cross the canal again, and continue downstream to our start point along the C&O Canal Towpath.

  • The total distance is 5.9 miles and should take a little over 2 hours, including a break. The surface is fairly level and smooth gravel/dirt.

● How to get there: From the I-495 Capital Beltway (either direction), take exit 41 onto Clara Barton Parkway and follow signs for Carderock. On Clara Barton Parkway, take the first exit right at the brown sign marked "Carderock Carderock Div. NavSurfWarCen." After exiting, turn left to cross over Clara Barton Parkway, then continue straight, going around a curve and through a tunnel under the C&O Canal. At the T-junction, turn right and drive to the furthest parking lot. Do not rely solely on GPS coordinates; they have led some attendees astray in the past. Here's a couple of Google map directions:

● What to bring: Water, comfy shoes and your furry friend if desired (leashes please). Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended.

● Weather: Forecast is mostly sunny and 81 degrees. Updates here: http://tinyurl.com/q6s64kc

● Advisory: As a reminder, this is an adult group, and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being during events. No one under 18 years of age is allowed at this event, either as members or as guests, to include babies in carriers and/or strollers.

● Administrative stuff: There are public restrooms at the parking area (three stars) and at the Old Angler's Inn entrance (four stars).
