Living History at Cedar Mountain Battlefield

Let's visit the Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield and check out their Annual Living History event on the 160th anniversary of the 1862 battle!
❶ What we'll do:
- We'll assemble at the information area tent at the northeast corner of the intersection of US-15 and Crittenden Lane. Look for white tents and portajohns! See https://goo.gl/maps/5cw3gZU6ATW8VZk37)
- We'll spend most of the morning along the battlefield's interpretive trails, visiting period reenactors at the military and civilian encampments, a period photographer, signal corps & cavalry stations, children's activities, and author & organization booths
- Apart from the above, there are scheduled events:
- 09:30 am Artillery demonstration
- 10:30 am Infantry demonstration
- 11:30 am Civil War music: 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Band
- 1:00 pm Talk by Michael Block, author of "The Carnage was Fearful," on the attack of Federal General Crawford's brigade (meet at Crittenden Gate)
- 3:00 pm Battle demonstration: A reenactment of the attack of the 28th NY Volunteer Infantry, which took 258 men into battle and lost over 200 of them, and the 150 men of the 1st VA Battalion who opposed them
- 4:30 pm Civil War music: 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment Band - Activities end at 5:00 pm

❷ How to get there:
- The Cedar Mountain Battlefield is located at 9465 General Winder Rd, Rapidan, VA 22733
- From the Capital Beltway, take I-66 W and drive southwest for 21.2 miles. Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 43A to merge onto US-29 S toward Gainesville/Warrenton and follow US-29 S for 11.4 miles. Keep left to continue on US-15 S/US-29 S, follow signs for US-17 S/Culpeper/Fredericksburg for 26.5 miles. Take the US-15 exit toward Culpeper/Orange; turn left onto US-15 and follow it for 4.5 miles. The battlefield will be on your right. Parking will be directly across Gen Winder Road on US-15. ❸ What to bring:
- Water, comfy shoes, and your furry friend if desired (leashes please)
- A hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended
- Consider a poncho, umbrella or rain gear in case of showers
❹ Cost: Event fee for spectators: $10 per car. Volunteers have been contracted to assist with parking and collecting event fees.

❻ Advisory: As a reminder, this is an adult group, and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being during events. The event we are attending is open to all ages.
❼ Administrative stuff:
- There are restroom facilities (portajohns) at the information area and at several locations throughout the battlefield area
- Please respect the battlefield’s pristine environment and leave no trace of your visit. Your trash should be packed out.
- Recreational relic hunting or metal detecting are not permitted
- Burnt Ends BBQ, Salsa Street Grill, and Law Dawg Hotdogs will be bringing their delicious food to the battlefield!
