Rockville Glenview Mansion, Trail, Nature Center, & Famous Cemetery

Details
Saturday will be the perfect time to explore one of Montgomery County's unknown gems. This hike will be modified from prior times we did this - with more time in the woods - more nature, fewer tombstones.
We will launch from the Glenview Mansion and explore the area around the Rockville Civic Park, tromp through the nearby wood, take a pause to look at the exhibits in the Nature Center, and check out a famous cemetery, the final resting place of Washington Senators pitching legend Walter Johnson. Glenview Mansion might be open - it is a throw of the dice on that score on weekends nowadays.
The hike will be a lively blend of nature and history.

❶ What we'll do:
- From the meetup point at the front of Glenview Mansion, we'll check out the gardens behind the mansion and then swing over to a forest trail. We will follow that to the Croydon Creek Nature Center. After a brief pause to check out the Center, we will proceed to the Rockville Cemetery, checking out headstones of famous local residents. We will then loop back to the mansion, where folks will have the option of checking out the interior if it is open.
- The walk is about 4.5 miles, easy going, and should take about 1.5 to 2 hours.
❷ How to get there: From the I-495 Capital Beltway (either direction), take I-270 N towards Rockville. (Depending on your direction of travel, you may use the I-270 Spur.) Follow I-270 N for almost a mile after the I-270 Spur junction and take the Montrose Rd exit. Stay left at the fork and follow signs for Tower Oak Blvd, then turn left onto Tower Oaks Blvd and drive 0.6 miles. Turn right onto Wootton Pkwy and drive for 2.8 miles. (Wooton Pkwy becomes First St as it crosses Rockville Pike, then becomes Norbeck Rd as it crosses Viers Mill Rd.) Turn right onto Baltimore Road and follow that for a few blocks; the Glenview Mansion and Park will be on your left. Follow the entry road to the mansion. We will meet at the front steps.
