Let's go for a hike in Old Town Fairfax and check out the 9th Annual Holiday Market!

❶ What we'll do:

  • From the Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center, we'll cross Main Street and do a modified loop along the Daniels Run Trail and Ashby Pond before taking a pit stop (if needed) at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center. Afterwards we'll continue through Bell's Bird Sanctuary and Old Town Fairfax to end the hike at Fairfax Old Town Square Park and the 9th Annual Fairfax Holiday Market! After spending as much time as you like taking selfies with Santa, looking through the many vendor booths for holiday goodies, and listening to the Route 236 Trombone Quartet, it's only a couple blocks east along Main Street to return to the Visitor Center.
  • The total hike is about 4.6 miles and should take about 2 hours at a moderate pace, plus however long you wish to spend snooping at the holiday market. The surface is a mix of paved paths, sidewalks and fine gravel, with a few inclines and steps here and there.

❷ How to get there: From the I-495 Beltway (either direction), take exit 50A for US 50 W/Arlington Blvd towards Fairfax. After driving about 2.6 miles, take a slight right to enter the traffic circle and go almost all the way around the circle, following signs for Blenheim Blvd/Old Lee Highway. (DO NOT turn immediately right onto US-29 N/Lee Highway!) After exiting the traffic circle onto Blenheim Blvd/Old Lee Highway, follow it southwest about 2.1 miles. Use the middle lane to turn left on Main Street and drive about 0.2 miles. The Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center will be on your right. See https://goo.gl/maps/jUxRx7CYtGCNyTvn9

❸ What to bring: Water, comfy shoes, and your furry friend if desired (leashes, please).

❺ Advisory: As a reminder, this is an adult group, and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being during events. No one under 18 years of age is allowed at this event, either as members or as guests, to include babies in carriers and/or strollers.

❻ Administrative stuff: There are restrooms and drinking fountains at the Museum and Visitor Center, and at Sherwood Community Center along our route.
