Our May wine event features highly rated wines that need little in the way of an introduction. France’s prestigious Burgundy wine region is home to some of the most expensive wines of France. We have Premier Cru Burgundy's that we will compare and contrast against Barolo, from Italy's Piedmonte wine region. Barolo known as the "Wine of Kings" is one of the most prized wines of Italy. As these two heavyweights battle it out for wine supremacy, we will enjoy a scrumptious four course menu created by the Chefs at The Capital Grille.
Due to both the popularity of the wines and the venue we will only be opening up only a few seats for Meet Up members at this event.
Wines
Domaine Chanson 2018 Beaune Bressandes 1er Cru
Score: 93 pts. WS
Deep black currant and black cherry flavors join forces with violet and spice notes in this plush red. It has fine equilibrium and lingers on the finish with ripe tannins. Best from 2023 through 2038. 30 cases imported.
Meix Foulot 1er Cru Mercurey 2016
Score: 92 pts. Wine Advocate
The 2016 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos du Château de Montaigu is the king of the cellar, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of ripe cherries, wild berries, grilled meat and incipient hints of rich forest floor. It's medium to full-bodied, with the most mid-palate amplitude and structural elegance of all the domaine's wines, its fine-grained tannins largely concealed by a deep core of juicy fruit.
Attilio Ghisolfi Bussia Barolo 2017
Score: 95 pts. WS
Forthcoming aromas of rose, cherry and licorice are the hallmarks of this supple red. Bright and well defined, with notes of tobacco, cut hay and tar adding detail. Solidly built, this should develop nicely over the next two decades. 200 cases imported. Best from 2024 through 2043.
Fratelli Alessandria "del Comune di Verduno" Barolo 2018
Score: 94 pts. WA
The Fratelli Alessandria 2018 Barolo del Comune di Verduno shows extreme clarity and focus with pinpoint aromas of cassis, sour cherry, crushed stone and perfumed violets. This is a standout wine that shines bright in a vintage that is not always even when you consider its peers. The wine invigorates the palate with acidity, minerality and fine tannins. This is a terrific, albeit slightly more approachable Barolo.
