95+ point Italian Wine Tasting
Details

## A few spaces remain for Meetup members at this event.
Our August event features big wines from Italy. We will drink wines dating back to 2009 that have been meticulously cellar aged and paired these wines with a four-course menu crafted by the chefs at Salumeria 104.
Wines
Rocca di Montegrossi Gran Selezione 2016
Score: 95 pts. WS
A meaty, muscular version, this red displays black cherry, blackberry, tar, leather and iron aromas and flavors. There is beam of fruit, along with a tightly-wound, vibrant structure. Fine length too. Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Top 100 of 2021, Rank 46
Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Guardiola 2011
Score: 96 pts. WA
The 2011 Etna Rosso Guardiola is among my favorite expressions from this estate. Guardiola is one of Marco-s highest and steepest vineyards and fruit harvested here picks up beautiful balsam and floral overtones. The wine also sports a darker, thicker consistency and a slightly softer management of the tannins. Licorice and anise seed flood over the palate. Drink 2017-2030.
Castello di Ama Chianti Classico San Lorenzo Gran Selezione 2010
Score: 95 pts. WS
The 2010 is 80 percent Sangiovese, with Malvasia Nera and Merlot. A racy, vibrant red that shows the elegance of the site, it is the top-scoring Chianti Classico tasted this year.
Top 100: 2014, Rank: 6
La Spinetta 'Garretti' Barolo 2009
Score: 95 pts. WA
The 2009 Barolo Vigneto Garetti comes from the lowest part of the vineyard. It shows great power and density with fleshy fruit, dried cherry and prune. The mouthfeel is round and dense, supported amply by the firm tannins at the back.
