Our second annual Spacewalk event will "officially" kick off 2021, just as it did last year for the first time ever (https://www.meetup.com/All-Things-Open-RTP-Meetup/events/266919621/).

The one-hour session will showcase new platforms and initiatives hosted by the ATO team, as well a talk on a topic focusing on open source community and community building. We'll also give away copies of an award-winning book, various ATO items, as well as some really cool electronics as a way for us to kick things off right.

Highlights:

We'll provide an overview of the upcoming 2021 calendar and we'll make multiple announcements regarding new platforms and projects.

In addition, Jono Bacon, one of the foremost open source community experts in the world, will speak and give away copies of his award-winning book "People Powered" (the books are free and we pick up shipping). https://www.jonobacon.com/books/peoplepowered/

Numerous items will be given away, including:

Topic: Building Communities That Don't Suck With Email

Speaker: Jono Bacon, Jono Bacon Consulting (https://2020.allthingsopen.org/speakers/jono-bacon/)

Abstract:
"Email marketing". I know, I know. When you hear it you think of inboxes packed full of junk. Well, email can be a valuable tool for building amazing open source communities and in this session I will show you how.

I will cover the core elements of doing email well, what great content looks like, especially within the context of open source, how to set up a campaign, how to track open and click rates, and more. I will also show you what not to do: think of it as a protective layer to not be one of those annoying email marketers.

All of this will reduce friction for new community members, build growth, and hotrod your community to the next level.

100% free but registration required:
