Alone, Together—Central Oregon (AT+CO)

We’ll meet at/near the picnic tables and bathrooms near the front at 10:30 am. We’re starting to walk at 10:45 sharp if you want to walk with us. When you pull into the parking lot, walk straight a little ways, until you see the bathrooms on your left. Turn at those and you’ll see the picnic tables nearby. (We won’t start on the Aspen Hall side. If you see the wedding venue, teepees and fishing pond, cross the road to the other parking lot and trails.)

We’ll likely just hang out while waiting for stragglers. This walk has no time limit. People can leave whenever they feel done or grab food nearby after if they want. Stay 20 minutes, walk for two hours, sit by the water and journal.

This will hopefully be a very alone, together walk. People can be social who want to, others will have headphones in. Some will walk faster, some slower. Start with the group, stay with the group, venture off on your own, start late, branch out with a couple people, do whatever you want! Once I’m done being social, I will hopefully put my headphones in and zone out. I’m used to hiking alone and doing my own thing, so this will be different for me too.

If you haven’t been before, there are a few trails of different lengths and picnic tables by the water. The river sounds really lovely when you’re walking along, the birds are chirping — it’s a nice walk. You can wade in by a few spots too.

Remember silence is okay, and so are awkward interactions. If anything, they lead to funny memories. I’ll have the green/red magnets to signal your social battery.

Please be responsible and bring water, sunscreen, and snacks — I may try to be prepared but I wouldn’t make a good park ranger 😊

Let’s make some cards that matter. So excited to team up with the Council on Aging of Central Oregon!

We’ll be making cards for local seniors experiencing social isolation. Think cheerful, encouraging, gender neutral — birthdays, seasons, non-religious holiday cards, thinking of you, sympathy, blank and decorated on the outside, or just a friendly hello. Council on Aging will handle the postage (but postage donations are always welcome) and get the cards to people who need them.

No superior art skills needed. Just creativity, kindness, and time. The picture above is a sample of cards previously made.

I’ll have blank cards, envelopes, and basic supplies for everyone like scissors, markers, and whatever else I conjure up, but bring some supplies to use or share if you have them — colored pencils, stickers, whatever you like.

I have more info in person about the Caring Connections program if you’re interested in volunteering long-term.

We had fun so we’re doing it again, just more organized. We’ll have two fun vibes in one!

If you want active, fun competition, we’ll have Lawn Game Olympics! (I’ll nominate someone fun to be the judge, so message me if you want to be in the running to keep score, give medals, and help facilitate this.) Think wheelbarrow and three-legged races, balloon between knees, egg and spoon, etc. Also maybe cornhole, kickball etc. Depends what mood people are in. DM me if you have ideas with free or very cheap accessories.

If you’d rather read, play a chill game, sunbathe, or have a deep or light convos, the Chill Corner will be for you! Here’s where you’ll really use your magnets. Spread out if you want and do your own thing with your magnet on red or stay in the group if you don’t mind people hanging with you. We’ll likely all play an easy game to break the awkward and get to know each other, and then we’ll split into smaller groups and flit around.

Bring sweet or savory snacks and non-alcoholic drinks for yourself, or to share if you want. I’ll bring a few group snacks just in case, and this time, I’ll set up a little designated spot for snacks and for both areas, make a playlist, and bring a speaker. Please grab a green/red magnet next to the snacks so other people know your vibe.

This is free. Bring what you need to be comfortable in the heat, and anything you want that might contribute to group fun! No alcohol please, per our local Parks and Rec’s Guidelines. Please be respectful. Plenty of parking nearby. We’ll likely be by the picnic tables and the grassy area behind it. I’ll post a photo when I get there but it’s not that large of a park.
