1. Instance Store in Fargate: Efficient Main-Sidecar container communication?
by Michal Salanci, Senior DevOps Engineer at Deutsche Telekom in SlovakiaWhat is the session about?
- Let's explore the practicality of using instance store for communication between main and sidecar containers in AWS Fargate tasks. This presentation will demonstrate how instance store not only facilitates efficient data exchange but also enhances performance without being an overkill and still cost effective. We will cover the architectural setup, benefits, and real-world application scenarios where instance store proves to be a robust solution.
Who will present?
- My name is Michal Salanci, and I am a Senior DevOps Engineer at Deutsche Telekom in Slovakia. I am proud father of two beautiful girls. For many years, I worked as a Network Engineer, handling various networking equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and more. In 2021, I made a career shift towards AWS, where I primarily concentrate on networking, serverless architectures, security and container technologies. I am AWS Community Builder in category Containers and also Leader of AWS user Group Kosice, Slovakia.

2. The power of local: testing AWS applications without staging environments
by Thomas Rausch, Co-Founder and Head of Engineering at LocalStackWhat is the session about?
- Have you ever waited for staging resources to become available to test your changes? Have you ever forgotten to turn of an AWS resource in your dev sandbox over the weekend and got billed for them? You're not alone!
In this talk, we will explore alternative development and testing strategies for AWS applications that focus on local cloud emulation. With cloud emulators like LocalStack, you can run true end-to-end tests of your cloud applications on your laptop or in your CI runner, which opens up a new world of cloud development.
In a technical demo, we'll deploy a serverless CDK application that uses Lambda, ECS, SNS, and other serverless services, to a LocalStack instance, and run end-to-end tests against it. We'll demo how you can hot-reload your Lambda and ECS code locally without re-deploying your resources. And finally, we'll deploy the app against an ephemeral LocalStack instance, which you can access remotely, which is an excellent alternative to staging environments in many situations.
Who will present?
- Thomas is co-founder and Head of Engineering at LocalStack. He is a passionate software engineer, engineering leader, and technologist with a PhD in computer science and over fifteen years of professional experience in software and systems engineering. He is active in the open source community where he maintains several OSS libraries and frameworks.
